The failure to increase the Dublin ambulance fleet in order to allow it to cope with the massive recent growth in demand must be addressed urgently, before we are obliged to debate this matter following the occurrence of a preventable tragedy.
Last year we witnessed the appalling situation where a large proportion of the Dublin ambulance fleet was detained in hospitals across the city and could not respond to emergency calls because patients had to be kept on ambulance stretchers.
The Minister is committed to the further development of this vital service in the context of the implementation of the cardiovascular health strategy and in response to the priorities identified by health boards.

Discovered and excavated during the construction of a BGE pipeline in south County Dublin, this intriguing site saw four phases of use.
The spread of burnt stone and charcoal, from heating water within the pit, sealed the gallery of the wedge tomb to a depth of 0.70 m and covered an area of 23 m (north-south) by 12 m (east-west), preserving the whole site.

The family of James Malseed (Shankill, County Dublin), believes that the Malseeds are of French Huguenot origin.
In the early years of the eighteenth century there were for a time no fewer than four congregations in the capital, two of them conforming to the established church, the other two retaining their Calvinist form of worship.
The leading private bank in Dublin in the eighteenth century, La Touche's, was started by a Huguenot who had established a poplin factory after coming to Ireland with William and taking part in the battle of the Boyne; his grandson was appointed first governor of the newly-founded Bank of Ireland in 1783.
