  Shannara review for the PC
Shannara is a graphic adventure based on the Terry Brooks #1 best- selling novel "Sword of Shannara".
Shannara works extremely well with the player; giving the clues and ingredients necessary to get through the game.
You use a mouse for the entire game, and it was nice not having to switch back and forth between mouse and keyboard.

In The Wishsong of Shannara, when Allanon was explaining to Brin and Rone that the circle is closed and magic must pass from the land, he insinuated that there was no magic in the world before the Great Wars.
In the High Druid Shannara series, your description of the darkwand formed from the tanequil is very similar to the description of the rune-covered staff the Knights of the Word carry around.
Mostly, the creatures in either world alter what is happening to the lands of their respective worlds, but the original can shape by alteration what is happening in the copy.

 Simple Solution to Sci-Fi/Fantasy Movies
Doing a Shannara movie or a Dragonriders of Pern movie anime-style would be so much easier, cheaper - and better, in my twisted opinion *g* - than, say for instance, trying to find actual actors to play the roles required...
Sci-fi/fantasy novels are filled with things like telepathy, magic spells, otherworldly creatures, and futuristic phenomena; and anime, besides being the most sophisticated form of animation available, is an extremely flexible, versatile form of art and therefore the optimal medium for turning fantasy novels into movies.
In fact, most anime deals with sci-fi and fantasy, and that is a direct result of anime's flexibility, which ALLOWS sci-fi and fantasy to be turned into movies and TV series without losing the unique and awesome flavor characteristic of sci-fi and fantasy.

Sword was really quite a forumlaic book as were the sequels which followed, Elfstones of Shannara and Wishsong of Shannara.
While Jarka Ruus flows on pretty smoothly from The Voyage of Jerle Shannara, it doesn't seem to connect to Sword of Shannara or Elfstones of Shannara very comfortably.
The power source of the airships (and the uses to which that power is put) move the sci-fi elements, which have always been in the margins of the stories, firmly to the forefront and raise questions that would probably be better off not raised.

Review of Terry Brooks' The Sword of Shannara by Craig Stalbaum
Briefly summarized, The Sword of Shannara is a story of two naðve, young brothers living in a small village in the southernmost region of the world.
In Shannara, somewhere in the distant past the race of man (modern humans) destroyed each other in a vast apocalyptic conflict, and thus the only remaining populations were very spread out across the globe and unable to contact one another.
The main characters are well developed and the reader cannot help but sympathize with them in their darkest moments; Brooks does well to make each of his characters real and alive, so much so that a break in chapters between one story line to another is often agonizing.
