The Irish Sunday Independent newspaper reported in October 2005 that Shannon Airport is the subject of an investigation by the European Commission into incentives given to Ryanair to operate a base at the airport.
Incentives provided by State owned airports such as Shannon are mandated by EU legislation to be reported to the Commission by the Irish Department of Transport.
Shannon is also one of the hubs of Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair.

There was not confrontation between the airport or Irish authorities and the US troops, who should have been arrested and interned under the Hague Convention V on neutrality.
The military traffic is estimated to have generated €12m for Shannon so far this year, bringing to about €55m in total the income received in respect of the 453,388 US troops who have stopped en route to Iraq and Afghanistan since the start of 2002.

The airport and the staff were lovely...however even though there was 2 hours between my arrival at Heathrow and my next flight AND my suitcase was marked RUSH it did not make my flight to Singapore.
The main one being that they have only one porter on hand to help with the luggage when walking across to the airport and neither do they have any other means to transport the luggage,like some kind of cart with wheels.
At 8 am on the morning of the 16th of October, there was nobody around to help, and with the excuse that the airport is just 2 minutes walk away, off we went in freezing cold early morning temperatures, dragging 4 heavy suitcases along with us.
