Shanwei City is situated in the south-east of Guangdong, bordering on Jieyang, Huizhou, Heyuan in the east, west and north respectively.
Shanwei has a long history, and is one of the homelands of overseas Chinese in Guangdong, with overseas Chinese abroad and over 1.30 million compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
Shanwei Port is one of the ports first opened in the country and a fishing port of the special grade.

On December 6, CCP aauthorities in the rural Chinese village of Shanwei authorities sent 3,000 paramilitary police to use tanks and machine guns to suppress and kill protesting villagers.
It is reported that the local government sent down a secret order to "damage the bodies and destroy the evidence, bodies are not allowed to be claimed." Villagers burned incense and knelt down before the police, begging to get the bodies of their family members back.
These photos of Dongzhou village, Shanwei city, taken on the morning of December 9 at great risk by Epoch Times reporters in China, show a village in China grieving for its dead and the callous nature of the Communist Party that ordered the shooting that killed them.

“Shanwei’s deputy party secretary said that he wanted to trample Dongzhou into a flat land,” said a village resident who gave her name as Jiang, and spoke with anger at the heavy-handed manner of the authorities before the outbreak of violence.
The clash in the village of Shanwei city resulted in the death of three civilians, according to authorities, who added it was now classified as a case of "serious violence against the people's police by several hundred villagers that was instigated by a small number of people".
At least nine villagers from Dongzhou village, Shanwei, are believed to have been arrested for their part in riots last Tuesday in which police opened fire and killed at least three protesters, according to local television reports and villagers.

If I remember correctly, we were taken by a friend about a third of the way to Shanwei to enjoy the a beach area, drink at a very upscale bar and then head up the road to a locally famous bed and breakfast style restaurant to have their chicken specialty.
My small package tells me that Shanwei is similar -- it is between Shantou, one of the first three special economic zones created by the Central Government and Shenzhen one made a SEZ shortly after that.

Residents of Dongzhou village, near Shanwei city in the eastern part of the province, rejected government proposals to pay them 600,000 yuan (U.S.$74,000) a year in compensation for land taken up by the power plant.

The official Xinhua news agency said a total of 13 villagers, all from Haifeng county near the southern port city of Shanwei, were convicted of illegally manufacturing explosives, disturbing public order, and illegally assembling to disrupt transport services.

Using the Falling Rain website, we can get the coordinates of the Shanwei city, which are: 22° 46' 60N 115° 20' 60E.
The place is 81 NM northeast of Hong Kong and about 450 NM from Taiwan and appears, from Google Earth, to be a built up area along a deep water port near Honghai bay.

The protest in the city of Shanwei is being blocked by the authorities as known, yet at 10:20 p.m I saw it reported on TV with video clips by the so-called Dragontv,(or 东方卫视 as in Chinese) which I think is a station based in Shanghai and personally I think it a pioneer on some level.
I went to their website to check on it, but could not find a transcript.
