Shapeshifting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Shapeshifting" often refers to characters who change form on their own, whether voluntarily or involuntarily, and for a time; "metamorphosis", to permanent changes from any source, and any degree of willingness; "transformation" (TF), to externally imposed change of form, whether by magic or sufficiently advanced technology.
Popular shapeshifting creatures in myths and legends are werewolves and vampires (mostly of European, Canadian, and Native American/early American origin), the fox spirits or were-foxes of East Asia (including the kitsune of Japan), and the gods, goddesses, and demons of numerous mythologies, such as Loki from Norse mythology or Proteus from Greek mythology.
Although shapeshifting to the form of a wolf is specifically known as lycanthropy, and such creatures who undergo such change are called lycanthropes, those terms have also been used to describe any human-animal transformations and the creatures who undergo them.

Shapeshifting is the power which enables you to use your body as your canvas, reshaping it into whatever you can imagine...within limits.
Shapeshifting works virtually everywhere, just as well in the Pattern Chamber as inside the Logrus, although there are a handful of shadows where it doesn't work for some strange reason.
Thus, shapeshifters learn FoP with the intent of using them selectively and for brief periods: for a single battle, for a quick journey through Shadow, etc. FoP are not chosen as possible permanent states; they're exhausting, both physically and mentally.

Shapeshifting allows you to briefly step out of that form, energetically, and see things from a different perspective, from the eyes of the eagle or the cat.
If you choose, for instance, to shapeshift into a cat, you would first spend a great deal of time studying "cat-ness;" their habits, nature, patterns, every aspect of cats that reflects "cat-ness." It helps to have access to a living cat on a regular basis.

With basic shapeshifting ones clothes do not change with you (that requires the Mould Matter portion of Advanced Shapeshifting); however, in Chaos, at least, it is common to have clothing which shifts to accommodate the changes in ones body.
SHAPESHIFT AURA (5 points) - this includes shifting ones aura sufficiently to change their Trump imprint (either to make them un-Trumpable, or imitate the Trump of another; in the latter case the nearest and/or lowest Psyche gets the call though of course the shapeshifter will have removed the original person if they have any sense).

 Shapeshifting and Dream Change
The art of shapeshifting, the transformation of a human being into another living creature, is an ancient shamanic practice known and practiced by many indigenous people throughout the world.
Very adept shamans are said to be able to physically change their human forms into that of plants and animals, using this shamanic technique of "becoming the other" in order use the abilities of the plant or animal to help and heal themselves and others.
At its core, shapeshifting is a transformation, a potentially life-changing shift that brings us to a new level of understanding and consciousness; one that helps us become aware of the illusion of our separation from all of creation.

Shapeshifting is an engaging sage of one individual's transformation from global businessman to on-the-ground conservationist and healer.
Shapeshifting is, however, an excellent introduction to this path and may motivate you to delve deeper into the subject.
Shapeshifting is usually thought of in terms of transforming the physical body; shamans can supposedly (I believe it, but I realize many don't) literally shapeshift into plants, animals or spheres of pure energy (the latter is described in the book).

Shapeshifter requires that you have 10 ranks in Concentration, BAB +3, and most of all: Alternate Form, Alter Self, Polymorph, or Shapechange as a Special Quality OR the ability to cast the Polymorph spell.

In many cultures of many times, humans have embraced the art of shapeshifting - transforming one's bodily form or consciousness - in order to perceive the world with new eyes, feel the earth in new and exciting ways, and experience life from diverse perspectives.
In myths, fairytales and times of magic, shapeshifting is used in a wide variety of ways.
For some, it is a means of holding or condemning one's enemy to a particular form, as the Greek goddess Circe did by luring lost sailors to her island and turning them into swine.

I might nudge them in the angle of narrowing the scope a bit, say begin with the dog parasite that gives them shapeshift, perception (doggy sense), etc. I think the advantage in handling it that way is that a jack of all trades demon seems to be a somewhat static device.

The first is cellular, and that is when a person of an indigenous culture shapeshifts into a plant or animal, or in our culture when a cancer grows in someone and then miraculously disappears.
The third form of Shapeshifting is about transforming the society that we live in, whether its at the town or city level, or the corporate level -- the place where we work -- or the institutions that help shape our lives.
I think cellular Shapeshifting is very important, because when we cellular Shapeshift, we realize that we really are one with everything.

Steve Jackson Games Forums - Regarding the Shapeshifting advantage....
Of course, it doesn't fit a lot of character concepts, and you get the strange situation where it costs *more* to have your base form (which you revert to when asleep, unconscious, etc.) be the weaker of your forms, when it seems like the reverse would be true.
If that applies to the 'additional cost' as well as to the base Shapeshifting, it will always be more expensive than just having the ability in both forms.
The counterpoint is that advantages would be cheaper to buy individually than as part of an alternate form that you can only become when certain conditions are met (such as "only at night -40%").

 Keep Amber Site: Powers/Shapeshifting
Shapeshifting is the power which enables you to use your body as your canvas, reshaping it into whatever you can imagine...within limits.  With time, even those limits can be escaped from, however.  It is the specialty of Chaosians, but Amberites and Shadow dwellers can get in on it as well.
Shapeshifting has no prerequisites, although having a good psyche and endurance helps a lot.  Even someone with all human atttributes can shapeshift.  Not very often or very well, but they could.  It doesn't require the blood of anything, either.
If the victim had shapeshifting, your basic forms are replaced by his.  If he did not, your human form becomes his normal appearance, but you retain your own demon and avatar forms.
