Wiki And Share Point   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
My experience with Sharepoint is that it ends up being a fancy shared drive or file dumping ground with not nearly so much extra value as you would get on a Wiki.
At my employer, we used SharePoint Team Services for the last project, and after 2 years, I've decided it was an abject failure, and essentially degraded to a fancy network share.
You might ask, 'Wouldn't it be better to just use Microsoft SharePoint Team Services, which is basically a slick, productized version of a wiki?' And I would answer, 'Nope.' I believe that the open, unregulated, anything-goes nature of a wiki is the key to its potential as a knowledge management tool.

ARB Security Solutions -- SharePoint Security -- Implementing Information Rights Management (IRM)
Because SharePoint is meant to provide users with large faculities in order to share and work with arbitrary business data, this can sometimes lead to users sharing information that should otherwise not be shared.
While the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server environment is meant to promote collobration of documents between virtual teams, IRM will provide offline methods of working with the arbitrary office documents.
In a typical SharePoint environment, documents are controlled at a very granular level when stored at the web level, however once a client gets the chance to download the arbitrary document, the overall permission levels are lost.

Sharepoint seems to be a very basic-level web-overlay; content material is stored in documents just like on a file server, and I can't search for the contents in the documents.
Sharepoint is hard to read, the discussion boards are about the only collaborative tool thats useful (and not as good as outlook folders), hyperlinks between content are hard and frequently break.
The biggest reason for me to go along with SharePoint rather than TWiki (apart from the fact that Intel corporate is bought into SharePoint) is that SharePoint makes it easy to control accessibility on an item by item (page by page) basis.

Microsoft Business Solutions gets a SharePoint facelift | InfoWorld | Column | 2005-09-01 | By Oliver Rist
In the semi-humble opinions of most of us pundits, SharePoint has been one of Redmond’s most underutilized platforms in the past few years.
The beast is awake and doing its favorite thing: slapping new front-end interfaces on loads of its own components, thus birthing a new platform.
In this case, Microsoft has announced that it will use WSS (Windows SharePoint Services) as a front-end for new functionality that it intends to roll out across its MBS (Microsoft Business Solutions) suite, which includes mostly acquired products such as Great Plains accounting, Navision and Axapta ERP, as well as Microsoft’s CRM application.
