Shareaza - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shareaza is a free Windows–based peer-to-peer client which supports the Gnutella, Gnutella2, EDonkey Network, BitTorrent, FTP and HTTP network protocols and which can handle magnet links, ed2k links, Piolet links, and the now deprecated Gnutella links.
On 1 June 2004, Shareaza 2.0 was released, along with the source code, under the GNU GPL, making it free software.
Users of Shareaza (along with Azureus and LimeWire) have frequently been targeted in internet scams such as Etomi that demand a "membership fee" for use of the software.

Shareaza is a Windows-based [multi] Peer-to-Peer client which supports the Gnutella, Gnutella2, eDonkey2000, and BitTorrent network protocols.
In late 2002, Shareaza's founder introduced Gnutella2, a reworked version of Gnutella with many fundamental updates to the protocol, and added support for it to Shareaza.
On June 1st, 2004, Shareaza 2.0 was released, along with the source code, under the GNU GPL, making it free software.

Shareaza: I don't think the old Gnutella network is in imminent danger of collapsing.
Shareaza: The magnitude of change in Gnutella2 means that it exists as a separate network along-side Gnutella1, providing a more modern and powerful alternative for those users who want it.

DriverHeaven.net - Shareaza 2.0 And Open Source RELEASED!
Shareaza has long been respected as a high-end multi-network file-sharing client with “no strings attached” in a world where many competing applications display banner ads, beg for money or offer “paid versions”, or worse yet dump a load of unwanted stuff on your PC.
Shareaza has avoided doing these things so far, and today I’m taking a step that will ensure it never falls into those traps in the future.
Shareaza version 2.0 is being released with some cool new features, better performance, and a sleek new theme – but the biggest and most important change is that it’s now offered under the GPL, an open source license.

Shareaza Wiki - Paid   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
The developers of Shareaza work on it in their free time and for free, there is no company behind it.
Because Shareaza is open-source and the source code is freely available, people will sometimes take the source code, make a couple of minor changes (such as changing the name, or the logo—just enough to say that it's a different program) and then try to make a profit from it.
In any case, the Shareaza community provides free technical support, which is superior to any other—the Shareaza community includes the creators, developers and maintainers of Shareaza, as well as members who have been using Shareaza for many years.

Shareaza is a Gnutella2 client, which does mean that it is able to iron out most of the problems with the old Gnutella system (such as rampant virii), and I can give it kudos for that.
Shareaza is a good P2P client, Good download speeds and I can find what I am looking for 90% of the time, But it would be the best by far if you could connect to WinMX as well.
Most of the time, people who become seeds or sources for these files are also users with very fast connection speeds, as they realise that seeding can result in heavy network traffic on their system.

The G2 settings in Shareaza have 4 ways of putting a client in queue: 1 for partially complete files, 1 for a small file, 1 for a medium file and 1 for a large file.
Shareaza attempted to integrate the network settings for BitTorrent into the settings it uses for Gnutella, G2 and ED2K.
But in Shareaza, the incomplete data is sealed up in a batch file.

Official eMule-Board -> Emule Vs. Shareaza?
Shareaza has that "I'm firewalled and can't take incoming connections" switch which I "think" might fix the problem (though it means I won't be sharing).
Perhaps it was the way I set up Shareaza, or perhaps it was the content I wanted, but I think that Shareaza just isn't quite finished yet, a bit like Windows 95 is actually to all intensive purposes a beta, while Windows 2000 actually works, (mostly).
I think that if Shareaza performed equal or better than e-mule, I would have stuck with it, they have some really nifty features, and of course they have the multi-network option, but for now I stick to e-mule for my TV series, until Shareaza performs well enough.

Shareaza version 2.2.1.0, and possibly earlier versions, could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system, caused by an integer overflow vulnerability in the CEDPacket::ReadBuffer() function.
By sending specially-crafted packets to an affected Shareaza client, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system.
CVE-2006-0474: Multiple integer overflows in Shareaza 2.2.1.0 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via (1) a large packet length field, which causes an overflow in the ReadBuffer function in (a) BTPacket.cpp and (b) EDPacket.cpp, or (2) a large packet, which causes a heap-based overflow in the Write function in (c) Packet.h.
