Shareholders United have been encouraged by polls which say that 93 per cent of Manchester United supporters are opposed to the Glazer deal.
United’s main sponsors may not be happy with a boycott of shirts, but in the short term at least, Glazer would still make his interest payments.
United have spent £110m on players over the past five years, Glazer’s package is almost identical, promising £20-£25m a season which the manager can carry forward or spend in advance.

 Shareholders United
Maybe you did believe that the £600m that BSkyB was going to pay for control of United would have gone into a transfer kitty, and not - as is the case - simply into the pockets of the existing shareholders in exchange for their shares.
United are sitting on a £39m profit, and we don't need a new owner to get us off the hook.
In other words, if 10% of United's shares were in the hands of people who were committed to United remaining independent, and with a strong supporters' voice, then there would be a good chance that that would happen.

They have assumed the role of "permanent shareholders" and "universal owners." As early as 1988 the Department of Labor (DOL) set forth the opinion that, since proxy voting can add value, voting rights are subject to the same fiduciary standards as other plan assets (see "Avon" letter).
One such effort, together with Les Greenberg of the Committee of Concerned Shareholders, was a 2002 petition to the SEC aimed at allowing shareholders access to the corporate proxy for their director nominees.
The Council of Institutional Investors said our petition "re-energized" the "debate over shareholder access" but the resulting SEC proposal would have allowed access to the corporate ballot only after a complex set of obstacles had been met.
