MacAlpine debuts as a lead vocalist on this album, as he continues to stretch most accepted contemporary musical boundaries.
Sharks proves that Michael Schenker, Phil Mogg, Pete Way and Aynsley Dunbar are at the top of their game.
This CD is a stunning instrumental barrage of outstanding musicianship and is rooted deeply in the progressive neo-classical style that generated a legion of loyal fans.

UFO - REVIEWS & Interviews - You Are Here   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
For this album they have added some new blood (guitar hero, Vinnie Moore, and the son of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, Jason) and that adds a new dimension to their music, sounding really fresh and (this is really surprising for a band that has been playing for more than 30 years) “young”.
Ufo are a true band that had much to say and that’s always ready to burn out the soul of the audience and that, until they release so enjoyable albums, will always be worthy the given success.
UFO then went on to produce a string of 4 records that were good, however several steps below their predecessors, the notable exception being '81's "The Wild, The Willing and The Innocent," a lost classic that to me stands toe-to-toe with their best.

 SHARKS
Sharks comes two decades after UFO's last meaningful hit, at a time when you'd think UFO would call it a day and raise a glass to the late '70s, when Lights Out and Obsession were huge and Strangers in the Night was being heralded as a landmark live album.
After the implosion of UFO at Manchester, and the personal traumas of various members since, I suppose I was somewhat wary at the announcement of a new UFO release.
Sharks is a musical masterpiece, in my humble opinion the best album UFO have ever made.

 Pete Way Interview
In fact, UFO were the prototype and a primary influence for the melodic, "heavy rock" bands that exploded out of England in the early '80s, not the least of which were bands like Iron Maiden and Def Leppard.
In fact, UFO’s many albums released in the 70s (they wouldn't reunite with Mogg/Schenker/Way until the mid- 90s), were THE equivalent of textbook primers for “how to” deliver aggressive and yet stunningly melodic, heavy rock that was also equally characterized with first classic songwriting astuteness.
UFO itself is not necessarily what I like; I just like being a part of UFO -- I like being in that ingredient, and I know Michael likes that ingredient, and Phil likes that ingredient, because we bounce ideas off of each other.

I'll confess until last week I hadn't listened to a UFO album bar "Strangers in the Night" for many years, but having stumbled upon " Walk on Water " on the back of reviews of the more recent and also excellent "You Are Here" I was not disappointed.
UFO were always the nearly men of hard rock in the 70's with some truely great songs, a couple of classic albums but never achieving the breakthrough to superstardom.
Yes as I said above this is an amazing album probaly one of the best by UFO with the great heavy tracks like 'Knock Knock' and the great new versions of 'Doctor Doctor' and 'Lights Out' this tops this off to be an all time classic album, this album will be remembered forever.

DVD Talk Forum - New UFO and Ted Nugent albums
UFO's new album, Sharks, is more like their great Walk On Water album from 1995 than their last album (Covenant).
There are a couple recycled riffs on the album (one intentionally), but with 14 songs on the album that is easily forgiven.
For me, what really works about Walk On Water and Sharks is that you see an aging band that isn't trying to pretend that the guys in the band are all still 29 or 30 years old.

Rock Ahead - CD Album review - UFO - You Are Here   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
The material throughout is excellent and the band play it as though they mean it which is more than can be said about the bands last album Sharks which to be fair had its moments but lacked a cohesive direction and at times came across as dare I say it going through the motions.
There are a great many excellent tracks on this album and without doubt and exception all of these tracks could quite easily fit into the live set and I for one hope that they do.
UFO are back and following the resurgence in rock music UFO show some of the newer bands like the Darkness how it really should be done on You Are Here and on the bands forthcoming tour you are advised To Be There and see for yourself what a real rock band looks and sounds like.

This record sees UFO bringing their hard rock antics back in a major (and surprisingly modern) way.
Sharks starts off with “Outlaw Man,” a pounding hard rock tune that is followed by the gritty “Quicksilver Rider” with its riff-heavy structure and anthemic chorus.
With “Perfect View,” UFO has crafted a perfect rock song with catchy refrains and cutting guitars, while album closer, “Hawaii” is a serene track consisting of brilliantly soaring guitar riffs.

However along with Schenker's guitar playing Phil Mogg voice is the unmistakable characteristics of UFO Pete Way and Aynsley Dunbar provides a tight Rhythm section that is better playing in sleep than most of the NU-metal bands today.
Overall the album does not give the fans a new "Doctor Doctor" but this is a solid collection of songs that U.F.O can be proud of and "Sharks" proves UFO's justification in their forth decade as band.
Sharks is brilliant and in the class of the great "Force It" and "Obsession" albums.

It's the exact opposite, this album has real power and punch and makes the last official studio album by UFO, "Walk on Water", sound like *it* was done twenty years ago.

That's followed by "Unraveled" which is quickly becoming one my favorite UFO tunes, Mogg's voice is in top form here, he shifts between singing in a deep low growl at the beginning to his trademark shouting seemlessly and the effect is really powerful.

Their 1994 "comeback" album Walk On Water was easily the strongest UFO album in recent memory, but its follow-ups, Covenant and Sharks, proved to be something of a musical anti-climax (Schenker's Written In The Sand, from the same period, was conspicuously stronger).
After years of drift and decline, Mogg and Co. seem to be well aware that You Are Here could be their last chance to prove that they are still a viable act; and they don't waste a moment in re-establishing their credibility.
UFO have seen considerable ups and downs in recent years, but You Are Here shows them hitting their stride once again.
