Shavo Odadjian - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shavo Odadjian (born April 22, 1974 in Yerevan, Armenian SSR (Now the Republic of Armenia) as Shavarsh Odadjian), is the bassist for the Los Angeles-based alternative metal band, System of a Down.
Odadjian moved to Los Angeles, California at a very young age, where he was raised to a great part by his grandmother, after whose death he claims to have lost faith and to have stopped praying every night as he did before.
In addition, Odadjian is a popular DJ in the LA area, taking part in such events as the "Rock/DJ Explosion" on March 2nd 2001 at The Roxy in Hollywood, CA and collaborating with bandmate Tankian on SerArt, the singers side project with multitalented Armenian musician Arto Tunçboyacıyan.

 Bio
Shavo, an endearing yet aggressive KISS fanatic, did wire transfers at a bank to earn his keep, while Daron, who possesses a quirky, otherworldly stage presence and a fierce playing style, "used to be a brain surgeon," cracks Shavo.
By 1995, it was a new beginning: System Of A Down was born, with new songs, a hardcore work ethic that matched their hard 'n' heavy sound, and finally, a new permanent drummer in John Dolmayan.
As Shavo and John lock into heavy, primal sync, Serj, eyes closed and face turned heavenward, sways to the beat as Daron's guitar roars into life.

Subject Odadjian is a case study in emotional duality and prolonged adolescence.
Born and raised in Armenia 'till age five, subject Odadjian's early musical memories, beyond the compulsory pot and pan banging, are of watching in awe as curious images were bounced from the cosmos.
Odadjian's secondary appreciation for Guardians, notably George Washington and Karem Abdul-Jabar (subject is apparently a Lakers' fan), disclose pride in self as ethically grounded.

System of a Down on Ho's, Bad Asses and Columbia Records (NY Rock Interview)
Why not say the creative process of System of a Down is “finely crafted?” Few of the bands you hear on the radio care as much about the art in their music as Serj Tankian (vocals), Daron Malakian (guitar), Shavo Odadjian (bass), and John Dolmayan (drums).
NY Rock met up with Shavo and John in a super-swank hotel room in midtown Manhattan to talk about the band's new album, Toxicity.
Shavo, John, and Jeanne Fury shot the shit about everything from Toxicity, to coked-up groupies, to the importance of playing your own songs in a sea of copycat bands.

Interview with System of a Down (NY Rock)
Demos of System of a Down’s energy-driven songs were making the rounds among fans, heavy-metal collectors, and editorial offices throughout America, Europe and Australia well before the band signed the dotted line.
Vocalist Serj Tankian, guitarist Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian and drummer John Dolmayan formed System of a Down in Los Angeles in the mid-'90s.
Along with bands such as Korn and Coal Chamber, System of a Down are considered to be part of the Californian heavy-metal explosion, but their roots are as much in Armenia and Lebanon as in the United States.
