  My experience is with Shaw Vancouver
Digital cable is being heralded by many as the second coming of television.
I read their promotional literature, then bought the cable box and additional cables and equipment to support 5.1, but it took a lot of calls to Shaw's baffled tech support before I found out that they didn't actually have 5.1 on digital cable yet.
Shaw cable recently upgraded their onscreen guide with new software.

Shaw Cable explained to me that they had removed it, because they were not quite sure how to package and market it.
Shaw Cable also told me that subscribers would have to subscribe to a package of 5 specific channels to get FOX News, but even that package deal is not available at this time until further notice
For the record, the Shaw agent I spoke to told me that she herself disagreed with that decision and that she had sent a memo to the powers that be to this effect.

 SHAW CABLE SEEKING EXEMPTION FROM MANDATORY HOMOSEXUAL CHANNEL
OTTAWA, May 29, 2001 (LSN.ca) - Shaw Communications Inc., the Calgary based cable company which serves most cable markets west of Winnipeg, is asking the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to allow it to exempt customers from having to subscribe to a homosexual channel.
The Financial Post section of the National Post reports today that Jim Shaw, the company's chief executive, explained that his company would face a "consumer revolt" if it forced customers to accept PrideVision, a homosexual channel, as part of their cable package.
While the Rogers Cable company seemed to have little problem with PrideVision, Quebec cable companies Cogeco and VidŽotron ltŽe simply advise that the channels should each be available to the public and thus consumers would be allowed to select according to their interests.

If you are reading this, then most likely you are like me, sitting at home with a PS@ network adapter, with a Shaw cable connection, SOCOM in your PS2, and unable to connect to the freaking network.
I have to talked to Sony and Shaw and they are both saying it is not them but the actual game itself.
Also, apparently Sony and Shaw will be meeting soon to try and figure out what the exact problem is and there may be a possibility of Sony releasing a patch disk so that we can connect using our Shaw modems.

Dont trust Shaw, oh yeah, they also told me I could use my own modem, when it came time to install it, they told me I could not access their service without a Terayon modem, want to get dicked around?
You shouldnt complain so much about Shaw before you do with Rogers and the rest of their gang.
The reason that you could not use your own modem is because shaw makes all network platforms only compatible with the modem they have at the time.

I know Shaw has a digital package here in Winnipeg were you can get Basic Cable and 4 Us superstations and 40 Channels of commercial free music for 21.95, they call it Digital Basic.
Regarding the channels being filtered out, they are always there, just when you have a STB (DCT 2000,2500,5100 or 6200) hooked up they send a code to your box and it only allows you to view the channels you have paid for.
Most cable companies will not "activate" a STB that has not been purchased from an appropriate retailer, or the cable company, or brought from another cable service area in a move.

Shaw Cable doesn't like Chum as far as I can tell.

By now many of you have heard that Shaw cable is offering a $10.00 / Month QoS feature for Shaw customers who use a 3rd party IP Telephony service.
There have been similar instances in the US and many of the large carriers have been hinting that their competitors should not be allowed to ride on their network for free.
We tolerate monopolies like the cable companies because often the benefits to society outweigh the lack of choices that may result.

This is not the first time that I have had this problem with Shaw.
As a long time customer of both your Shaw Cable and Shaw@home high speed internet service I feel like I have put up with a lot.
And being that I am the person in the household responsible for decisions of this kind, we have stayed with Shaw despite the constant frustrations and lack of empathetic customer service I have received.

Surprise of the VoIP world - at least in Canada - has to be Shaw Communications having 90,000 subscribers.
Last we heard, the Calgary-based company's $55 a month cable telephony service had 20,000 subs.

ZingoTel claims that the Canadian cable operator refused to air a ZingoTel television ad because it promoted a competing VoIP-based calling service.
According to an article published in the Calgary Herald, ZingoTel had agreed to pay Corus Entertainment, Shaw's media buyer, a total of $36,000 to air the ad in one of the cable operator's channels.
Shaw has previously been accused of trying to stimy VoIP competition by penalizing competing carriers' quality of service.
