Shedim - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Shedim are demons or spirits, according to Jewish mysticism.
According to one legend the shedim are descendants of serpents (supposedly of demons in the form of serpents, as Satan is alluded to in the Hebrew Bible's serpent at Genesis), meanwhile to others they are descendants of Adam and Lilith.
This word is a plural, and although the nature and appearance of these dangerous Jewish demons is very different according to one of the legends, the name was surely taken from shedu.

Shedim - Demons, Demonology, and Evil in Judaism and Christianity
In Babylonian and Assyrian religions, Shedim was a generic name like the Hebrew and Christian word 'spirit.' The word possibly derives from the root meaning 'to be violent.' They were frequently portrayed as winged bulls that guarded the entrances to temples.
There is also the story that some of the people that were scattered after the building of the tower of Babel were transformed into Shedim, Ruchin, and Lilin.

The reason why the Shedim were not completed [with a body) is obviously not because God did not have time to complete them.
Let him take a lesson from his Creator, who was engaged in the creation of the Shedim, but stopped His work, not completing their bodies.

Most of my experience is on the kyrio end, their demon counterpart is a new one to deal with from the player aspect.
Now, as far as Shedim are concerned, they are in control of the body, but let the consciousness of the host come for a ride.
A lot of what Shedim cause their hosts to do won't necessarily cause detectable disturbance -- there are plenty of types of corruption that don't involve serious property damage and aggravated assault or murder.

The reason Shedim are more evil than Lilim is that Shedim (all) take enjoyment from causing pain, and from perverting their hosts and those around them.
Shedim possess without consent of those they ride, degrading and destroying those possessed, all without the host resisting unless the Shedite's presence is made obviously, imminently clear.

Shedim of Conquest are more concerned with defeating Heaven than in the abstract corruption of human souls.
They need not drive their hosts to greater and greater acts of evil; rather, so long as they successfully motivate their host to do something which hampers Heaven's activities or forwards Hell's goals, that is sufficient for them to remain another day.

They don't argue intellectually with hosts, they're more like the voice in your head that says 'I bet you wouldn't dare...', or 'C'mon, this is cool!' They drown out the voice of a hosts conscience through sheer exuberance and enthusiasm.
These Shedim don't like it when people stop to think before they do something, they prefer impulse evil, preferably way over the top...
Because of the access to mortal minds, they probably have the easiest time of any demon in adjusting to earth, they just let the host deal with that stuff.

Steve Jackson Games Forums - Question About Shedim
I had been going with the idea that their body counts as a vessel while possessed (much like a Kyrio) and it uses their Corporeal Forces and Strength to figure body hits, though this frequently means leaving the body basically dead if its taken very much when the Shedite bails.
The human isn't being tempted into doing anything -- the human is in the back of his head while another personality is driving, and the other personality is about to do something awful, and the human goes, "NO! I don't want to do THAT!" and tries to get the wheel back.
As far as inflicting damage on the host while possessing it -- I'd say no, a possessed human is effectively a celestial vessel while being possessed, so I'd say it can't be a source of disturbance, either.
