Ashug Molla Djuma (1854-1920),the Sheki poet,worked at the end of the 19th and at the begining of the 20th centry.Rashidbek Ismailov born in Sheki,was the autor of the "Brief History of the Caucasus",published in Tiflis in 1904.
The town of Sheki is the centre of one of the large economic regions of the republic.

A group of English teachers from Baku, Ganja, Sheki, Khachmaz, Sumgayit and Lenkaran, the representatives of the United Kingdom’s Embassy in Azerbaijan, the British Councils, ETAT (English Teaching Association of Tajikistan) Dushanbe branch and the Executive Director of AzETA (Azerbaijan English Teaching Association) visited the Internet Computer Center in Sheki School #8 on July 31.
The main focus of the AzETA is to support the professional development of English language teachers, and the organization’s members, in Azerbaijan through teacher trainings, study tours, conversation groups, workshops etc. The association arranges regular study tours to introduce new teaching methods and to establish English language centers in the regions.
As a part of the visit to Sheki, the teachers, the UK Embassy officials, AzETA and ETAT representatives visited the Internet Computer Center at school #8, met with the site staff and learned about the work the Center is doing in the community.

It was the seating of Caucasian Albania's Gis episcopate, founded by St. Yelyses, which proves that Albanians were the first Christians.

On the Way to Kish - We arranged to have a cab drive us up to the village of Kish, just outside of Sheki, to see the "Albanian Church" said to be one of the oldest standing Christian churches in the world.
This nearly dry river bed looks to be a rushing river when the mountains let loose with rain and snow melt!
