  GulfBase - Fishnet Bank
It is a ‘transitional’ mid-shelf bank composed of tertiary limestones, sandstones, claystones and siltstones.
Fishnet Bank is referred to as a ‘transitional’ bank with surrounding depths in excess of 65 m but less than 80 m on all sides of the bank.
Two patterns of local relief are found atop Fishnet Bank: A pattern along its southern and south eastern perimeter, which may be a fringing reef but is more likely an outcrop of a more massive rock unit, and an ellipsoidal pattern of outcrops that result from the truncation of the domal uplift.

But how much interchange there is between haddock stocks from bank to bank or between inshore and offshore fishing grounds has not been answered by the various studies (Schroeder, 1942), although they have indicated that stock division probably does occur within each of the major regions.
Larvae originating on Georges Bank are transported in a westerly direction, but are mostly retained on the bank that acts as both a spawning and nursery area (Grosslein and Hennemuth, 1973; Sherman et al., 1984; Smith and Morse, 1985; Lough and Bolz, 1989).
Although larvae are retained on the western banks of Nova Scotia, the same does not appear to occur on most of the eastern banks, which may be explained by the existence of gyres in the former areas acting as larval entrainment mechanisms (O'Boyle et al., 1984).

The gravel fraction of the bottom sediment on the Spitsbergen Bank, located south of Svalbard in the NW Barents Sea, is composed predominantly of elastic sedimentary rocks, especially sandstone and shale.
Observations on Mesozoic rocks on Bjornoya, Hopen and southern Spitsbergen, and on the distribution of pebbles as described herein, suggest that the Spitsbergen Bank is underlain by nearly flat-lying Mesozoic sedimentary rocks similar to those known on Svalbard.
The overall structure is a gentle syncline; a southward continuation of the dominant regional structure of Spitsbergen.

Nominal commercial catches from the Scotian Shelf, Gulf of Maine, and Georges Bank region increased from an annual average of 38,200 mt during 1972-76 to 68,800 mt in 1986.
Biomass indices for the Gulf of Maine-Georges Bank portion of the stock, derived from NEFSC autumn bottom trawl surveys, increased during the mid-1970s, declined sharply during the 1980s, and have remained relatively low since 1989.

 Budgeteer News - Duluth, Minnesota
Food banking began back in 1975 as regional warehousing charities were put in place to rescue national donations of bulk food from major manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers and growers for distribution to nonprofit agencies distributing food directly to the needy.
The food bank prefers cash donations because it rescues food from national sources that require the costs of transportation, storage and handling to get the product into Duluth.
Food shelves are able to handle small quantities of donated food directly, and typically the food bank refers local food drives (unless a regional focus) to the food shelves in their local communities.

Since newly hatched larval cod rely on soft-bodied microplankton for nutrition during absorption of the yolk-sac, the coincidence of spawning with abundant and palatable microplankton is critical to larval survival and, possibly, recruitment.
As larval patches are advected around the Bank towards the Southern Flank, insolation and warming of the surface waters induces the water column to stratify with respect to temperature.

Bedford Institute of Oceanography, CA Implications for Georges Bank of hydrographic and circulation variability in the Gulf of Maine and Scotian Shelf regions are discussed, using the historical temperature and salinity database and a diagnostic circulation model (Lynch et al.
Since Georges Bank currents are dominated by tides, one of the difficulties with the combined space/time character of ADCP data is to extract the tides from the mean and synoptic scale current fields.
The temperature and salinity fields in 1993 were influenced along the southern edge of the Bank by the close proximity of warm, salty Gulf Stream ring (or Slope) water, and on the Northeast Peak by an intrusion of relatively fresh, cold, low-nutrient and low-chlorophyll surface waters of Scotian Shelf origin.
