Shepshed, often known until 1888 as Sheepshed, (also Sheepshead) is a town in Leicestershire, England with a population of around 13,000 people.
The prosperity of medieval Shepshed was based on the wool industry and "Well Yard" on Forest Street may well be a corruption of "Wool Yard", where Bradford wool merchants congregated to buy from local inhabitants.
Shepshed was briefly linked by canal to Loughborough, and to the coalmines of West Leicestershire when the Charnwood Navigation Canal was opened in 1798.

Shepshed Dynamo F.C. is a Football Club based in the small town of Shepshed in the North West of Leicestershire, England.
The town of Shepshed, adjacent to Junction 23 of the M1 motorway in North West Leicestershire, has had football teams associated with it since 1879.
Shepshed were in the top six of the league for most of the season, but slipped to a final placing of 10th, after a poor run-in that was not helped by player availability problems.

Domont is similar in size to Shepshed with a population of 11,000.
The town of Shepshed received 100 people from Domont, near Paris, on the weekend of 22nd/23rd May 1999 when it celebrated 10 years since the two towns were officially twinned and three years since Domont named a new roundabout "le rond-point Shepshed".
Shepshed Twinning Association was grateful for the financial and organisational support it received from Charnwood Borough Council, Shepshed Town Council and the European Commission.

This year, Shepshed Albion changed their name back to Shepshed Dynamo Youth and Juniors with a hope of even closer ties with the senior club.
The hope is that next season, we can start an Under 18's team with Shepshed Dynamo and the season after that, you should see some youngsters from Shepshed and around forcing their way into the reserve and first team.
Currently there are five Shepshed lads playing at the academies and hopefully the number playing in the first team at the Dynamo will increase.

Swift Foxon was born about 1828 in Shepshed the son of Charles Foxon and Frances Meakin.
I am after information regarding Samuel Mason born approx 1816 in shepshed and any of his family.I know he married a Mary stevenson in december 1837 and they had a daughter Alice born 1844 who married a Charles clarke but that is it any help would be great.

Garendon Hall (now demolished) was built on the site of Garendon Abbey, a prominent Cistercian House which was built in 1133 and survivied its dissolution by Henry VIII in 1536.
There had been enclosures in the 15th and 16th Century, but towards the end of the 18th Century the last remaining common land, approximately 2000 acres, was enclosed and divided among the principle commoners of the village.
