 Aircheck UK
MERLIN FM a dedicated radio station for Yeovil, Sherborne, Crewkerne and surrounding areas, with unrivalled local news and information, alongside a broad variety of melodic hits from the past 40 years;
The station's bid was seen as both realistic and convicing, and the RA was pleased to note 'robust coverage' for smaller neighbouring towns, particularly Chard and Ilminster, in line with their aims to broaden listener choice, and that the proposals for music content were particularly 'coherent and realistic'.
On launch, the station was set to include light pop tunes from the last three decades with some older tracks, a Sunday morning classical music show and, along with the usual speech elements, a daily phone-in, interviews and interesting items such as racing tips and brainteasers.

 Basingstoke
1839: London and Southampton Railway (later the London and South Western Railway) opens to London (it was actually aimed at building a London-Salisbury-Bristol line, which is why it was so far off the straight line between London and Southampton).
1086: The Domesday Book records the villages in the area as Basinges, Basingstoches, Cleresden (Cliddesden), Odetone (Wootton St. Lawrence), Campesette, Chineham and Sireburn (Sherborne St. John), and notes that Basingstoke is owned by the royal family.
1211: Basingstoke gets its first charter as a town in its own right, but has difficulties keeping up payments to the king until a new charter is issued in 1256.

 Yeovil Junction
Double track was within months reinstated between Yeovil and Sherborne (the Sherborne to Templecombe section had remained double track), a passing loop east of Tisbury station was introduced on 24 March 1986 and trains could again pass in Yeovil Junction station from 26 March 1975, all to increase capacity and reliability.
It is perhaps quirky that such an extensive station could be built in the middle of nowhere, however the large site has paid off in railway preservation terms.
The Yeovil Railway Centre now occupies the Clifton Maybank site and part of the former down platform.
