  Legends of Hockey - Induction Showcase - Patrick Roy
At the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, Patrick was drafted 51st overall by the Montreal Canadiens, a team he disliked growing up in a suburb of the Habs' most dreaded foes, the Quebec Nordiques.
In 1984-85, his final year with the Bisons, he was called up by the Canadiens, ostensibly to observe the action from the end of the bench for a few games.
Sherbrooke had two netminders, and Patrick was certain he would not play, but fortune smiled on him once again.

He was assigned to scout Montreal's American Hockey League team in Sherbrooke after the Quebec Nordiques bounced the big club from the playoffs.
Montreal's third-round pick from the 1984 draft had been told to sit in the stands and study Greg Moffett, the Sherbrooke starter, as he led the team on a playoff march.
Winning the AHL championship was a big deal and all, but in Montreal's mind, especially in the mind of Canadiens general manager Serge Savard, Roy required further seasoning before joining the parent club.

Pierre Gervais has been a member of the Montreal Canadiens organization since 1984 and Gervais was selected by Wayne Gretzky as one of two Equipment Managers with Team Canada for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.
Gervais was a member of the Stanley Cup Championship Canadiens in 1993, as well as the Calder Cup Champions Sherbrooke Canadiens in 1985, Pierre also participated in the Memorial Cup in 1978, 1979 and 1981 and in the 1987 Canada Cup.
Gervais is in his fifth season as head equipment manager in Montreal after joining the team as an assistant equipment manager in 1987-88, following a five-year stint as equipment manager in the AHL with Sherbrooke (1982 to 1987).

Sherbrooke is a very nice city from what I've heard, never been there though.
Plenty of museums and "boutiques" in Sherbrooke and also in the environs.
The city is very nice, lots of old architecture to visit if you like that, nice bar/restaurants, a very complete shopping center, and a few good happening over the summer.

After a Bachelor of Physical Education degree from the Université of Sherbrooke, several study trips to Europe and a rewarding career as a goaltender coach of the Midget AAA, university and junior major levels, François Allaire became the first full-time goaltender coach for the Montreal Canadiens organization.
Among others, he worked with Patrick Roy from the beginning of his career with the Sherbrooke Canadiens of the American League in 1984-1985 until he left to join the Colorado Avalanche in 1995-1996.
He was also named to the first all-star team three times and to the second team twice, besides participating in six all-star games.

The Canadiens led the series 2-0, and the Rangers peppered the net with 47 shots, including 13 in 9:41 of overtime, before Montreal rightwinger Claude Lemieux scored the game-winner.

During the 1970s the Sherbrooke Olympiques were a dominant team in the Senior Quebec League but the local program was disbanded in the 1980s for a variety of reasons.

Thus far, in leading the Canadiens through two playoff rounds and into a 2-0 lead over the New York Rangers in the Prince of Wales Conference championship series, Roy has permitted an average of only 1.82 goals in 12 games.
After Granby closed out its dreadful 22-44-2 season a year ago, the Canadiens told Roy, a third-round draft choice in 1984, to join the Sherbrooke Canadiens in the American Hockey League.

Former Montreal Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien has been named the new head coach of the Penguins, while Geoff Ward, who led Hamilton to the Calder Cup 2003 Final, is the first coach in Roadrunners history.
Therrien, 39, returns to the AHL where he coached the Canadiens' affiliates in Fredericton and Quebec from the start of the 1997-98 season until Nov. 20, 2000, when he was promoted to Montreal.
The Montreal native guided the NHL Canadiens to a record of 77-91-22 before being relieved in January 2003.
