Sherman is a small unincorporated community in Wexford County in the U.S. state of Michigan.
Sherman was platted in 1869 and incorporated as a village in 1887.
Sherman was the county seat until 1881, when, as a result of the so-called "Battle of Manton", the seat was moved first to Manton and a short time later to Cadillac.

 Sherman House
In its heyday, the Sherman House was the place to "see and be seen" in Mount Clemens.  Politicians, business magnates, and actors were among its noted guests.
Following the bank's purchase of the property, the Sherman's days as a hotel were numbered.  Its last day of operation as a hotel was August 31, 1926.  Thereafter, rooms were leased to various businesses and offices until the bank was ready to begin construction of a modern, new facility.
The Sherman House passed into memory during the week of April 1, 1929, when the venerable old hostelry was demolished to make way for the new Mount Clemens Savings Bank.

Michigan City, cited by Look Magazine and the National Municipal League for the quality of its community life - particularly as evidenced by citizen action programs - was one of 13 All-America Cities chosen from an original field of 142 entries.
Michigan City residents observed their first wartime Fourth of July since 1918, as a page one News-Dispatch story said, "with the determination that they shall preserve the independence which our forefathers won for us 166 years ago." Tires were rationed and a 40-mile-an-hour speed limit was in effect.

Sherman found the large mussels -- 20 and 16 mm in length -- attached to rocks while she was surveying the lake bottom for native Unionid mollusks.
They are: Eagle, Loon and Portage lakes in Michigan; Lake Wawasee in Indiana; White Star Quarry and Hargus Lake in Ohio; and Conesus Lake and Hinkley Reservoir in New York.
As part of a program funded by Michigan Sea Grant and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, plankton samples from 45 Michigan lakes will be examined this summer for zebra mussel veligers.

The BoarsHead Theater, one of Michigan's oldest resident theatres, in the state capital of Lansing, announced Geoffrey Sherman as the new artistic director, effective November 2003.
Sherman, 54, is the British-born director who served as the artistic director of Michigan's largest LORT house, the 600-seat Meadow Brook Theatre, 1995-99, but left when he felt the administration there didn't have faith in his programming.
Sherman has also served as a guest director at more than 40 theaters on both sides of the Atlantic including England's Redgrave and Crucible Theatres, the Seattle Repertory Theatre and Milwaukee Repertory Theatre.
