The elder Sherman wrote some memorable songs himself: "You've Gotta Be a Football Hero," "Potatoes Are Cheaper, Tomatoes Are Cheaper, Now's The Time to Fall In Love," and Maurice Chevalier's first big American hit, "Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight" (also performed by Tiny Tim in an episode of Spongebob Square Pants).
In fact, it was on a dare from their father that the brothers collaborated at all.

Dick Van Dyke, who has been a friend of both men throughout the years, starred in the film and owns an original painting by Robert.

One of Walt Disney's most successful songwriting teams was that of brothers Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman who created the music heard in Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, and many more Oscar-nominated scores for children's films.
Just four years later, the brothers were awarded Oscars for Best Score and Best Song for the music of Mary Poppins and the song (not "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" but) "Chim Chim Cheree." 1967 brought another lasting accomplishment for Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman with the animated feature The Jungle Book.
After this, the Sherman Brothers began freelancing work on screenplays and scores, including Snoopy, Come Home (1972), Tom Sawyer (Oscar-nominated score), Charlotte's Web (1973), Disney's The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The Slipper and the Rose: The Story of Cinderella (1977; Oscar-nominated score and song), and The Magic of Lassie (1979; Oscar-nominated song).

In the later '50s Sherman offered the shuttle or reverser transmission that simply reversed the input to the regular transmission and gave you all the normal forward speeds when you were going backwards.
This was handy for the Fords that were being used as forklifts or for loader work as one lever could change the tractor from forward to reverse at the same speed as the gear the regular transmission was in at the time.
Their "Dual-Drive" over/under transmission was similar to the Sherman unit but the shift lever was on the right hand side of the tractor.
