Isabella County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan.
In the county the population was spread out with 20.30% under the age of 18, 29.40% from 18 to 24, 23.80% from 25 to 44, 17.40% from 45 to 64, and 9.00% who were 65 years of age or older.
The county government operates the jail, maintains rural roads, operates the major local courts, keeps files of deeds and mortgages, maintains vital records, administers public health regulations, and participates with the state in the provision of welfare and other social services.

Michigan Shadow Towns is partially funded by an $8,000 grant from the Michigan Humanities Council and is co-sponsored by the Livonia Historical Society and Redford Township Historical and Genealogical Society.
Michigan Shadow Towns describes villages, most of them unincorporated, which have survived near or total demises generally caused by local economic failures and one or more significant declines in population.
The Michigan Humanities Council grant provided funding for complimentary distribution of the book via the Library of Michigan network to principal county and district libraries throughout the state as well as to major participants such as local historians and historical societies in the various towns, townships, and counties.

In the spring of 1871 he located in Butler County, on his present farm, where he was identified as an agriculturist until the autumn of 1875, when he was elected Treasurer for Butler County by the Republican party, and re-elected upon the expiration of his first term.
One of the early settlers of Butler County was Joseph Adams, Esq., father of John C., who located on the Whitewater in 1869, and was identified with the growth of the county up to the time of his death, in 1876.
This prominent farmer and stockman is a native of Illinois, and was born in Jersey County, April 13, 1857.

Moved to Emmitt County, Iowa, and lived there two years, then to Dickinson County, where he lived till 1875, when he moved to Red Oak; practiced there five years, then moved to Elliott, where he is now practicing with good success, in company with his son Fred.
Then moved to Clinton County, Iowa, and engaged in farming there for two years, and then came to Montgomery County, stopping for a short time in the city of Red Oak; then bought his present farm in Sherman township, on section 9.
His sister, Melinda, died in Scott County April 12, at the age of two years; his brother, F. Logan, is a soldier in the regular army, company I, fifth cavalry United States, now stationed at Fort Laramie; he was in the charge under Gen. Mills at the White River massacre.

The letters concern the attitude of the citizens of Alexandria towards the Michigan troops, the assassination of Colonel Ellsworth, the Zouaves, social and camp life, marches and skirmishes, political news of the day and the towns in which he was encamped.
The papers of the Michigan governor include one letter (Apr. 1863) from Colonel Robert Horatio George Minty to Governor Blair in which he recommends that Sergeant Charles F. Kendall be commissioned a lieutenant in the 4th Michigan Cavalry.
Bowers was a resident of Sullivan County, N. Y., who later came to Grand Traverse County, Michigan (1883) where he ran a mill and later became a mail carrier.
