SHERPUR, Feb 1:—The patients of 200-bed Sherpur District Hospital are deprived of proper pathological and X-ray facilities.
Sherpur Krishi Bank has set a target to disburse Tk 2795.50 crore among 4000 farmers for cultiva­tion of aman, boro, wheat, ba­nana, papaya, vegetables, maize, setting up of poultry and dairy farms, pisciculture and purchasing irrigation equipment.
Sherpur Sadar thana police re­covered an unidentified body from Sherpur district hospital and sent it to the morgue for autopsy.

It is learnt from a competent source that a total of 66 posts of headmasters and 114 posts of assistant teacher have been lying vacant in the district since long hampering the universal primary education programme adversely.
There are a total of 816 primary schools in all the 13 upazilas of the district but the authorities said that they are facing problems in implementing the programme due to dearth of teachers.
It may be noted here that the government has taken steps to popularize wheat cultivation in the district as the farming of the crop decreased to a great extent in the wake of an increasing maize cultivation for the last three years.

Kamala Khatun, a village woman of Sherpur district, was sentenced to life imprisonment along with her second husband eight years ago on charges of "killing and hiding the corpse" of her eight-year-old son with her first husband.
The Court of Sherpur District and Sessions Judge found Kamala and Mizanur equally guilty of the crime on May 28, 1997 and threw them behind bars.
The district judge on March 24 ordered that all the statements and report be sent to the High Court where Kamala's appeal remained pending.

Results indicate the size of the homestead increased with the farm size.

The main opposition Awami League called the strike to protest the killing of a former finance minister and four others in a grenade attack during a party rally.
According to reports, a police constable hurt in a clash died en route to hospital and five other policemen were hospitalized in the Sherpur district north of Dhaka, but other than that incident no serious violence was reported in other parts of the country during the last day of the strike.
