Sherwood Clark "Woody" Spring is a retired United States Army Colonel and former NASA astronaut.
Spring was selected as an astronaut in May 1980.
Spring served as a mission specialist on STS-61B which flew November 26, 1985 through December 3, 1985.

Sherwood said that in Susquehanna County, the United Fire Company in Montrose will receive a federal grant of $34,830 and the Hop Bottom Hose Company will receive $73,699, each for fire operations and firefighter safety.
The three grants to the local fire departments were awarded under the federal Assistance To Firefighters program, established by Congress to provide funding directly to local fire departments to enhance their capabilities to respond to emergencies.
Sherwood, a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, helped make sure that $750 million will be available for the program in 2004.

Sherwood nominated in 1987 the phrase "hands-on participatory experience." On New Year's Day 1988, CBS radio in New York City aired an interview with Sherwood in connection with his suggestion that the phrase "alternative lifestyle" be banned from the language.

 SPACE SHUTTLE MISSION SUMMARIES
Astronaut Sullivan became the first woman to walk in space when she and David C. Leestma performed a 3 hour EVA on Oct. ll demonstrating the Orbital Refueling System (ORS) and proving the feasibility of refueling satellites in orbit.
Liftoff occurred on schedule and the countdown and ascent to orbit, as on the previous flight, went flawlessly.
The seven-person crew was comprised of Brewster H. Shaw Jr., commander; Bryan D. O'Conner was the pilot; three mission specialists Mary L. Cleave, Sherwood C. Spring and Jerry L. Ross; and two payload specialists, Rodolfo Neri Vela from Mexico and Charles Walker of McDonnell Douglas on his second Shuttle flight.
