Sherwood Schwartz (born November 14, 1916 in Passaic, New Jersey) is an American television producer.
While he has been involved in a great number of projects over a long career, it is almost unquestionable that he will be best-known as the producer of two programs which have reached almost iconic status in American popular culture, Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch.
Other series Sherwood Schwartz has been involved in include My Favorite Martian (1963), The Red Skelton Show, It's About Time, Dusty's Trail, Harper Valley PTA, I Married Joan, The Real Gilligan's Island, and Big John Little John.

 A Very Brady Chronology
Schwartz said another gaffe was when the young actors would call each other by their real names.
Schwartz said Paramount never gave permission for the Bradys' foray into a variety show, but the studio was reluctant to sue ABC "because they were in bed with the network and had other things to sell them.
Schwartz was ordered to chop it into four pieces, which caused Sherwood and his son, Lloyd (his producing partner), to spend four days in an editing room trying to cut it into sensible, coherent episodes.

Schwartz also reveals that the first recording of the theme from "Gilligan's Island," which Schwartz co-wrote, was recorded in a single evening at Mel Shavelson's house and that original recording was, for a long time, the one used on air.
Though certain cast members from Schwartz's shows have attempted to distance themselves from the long-running hits (Knight calls it "The Reluctant Brady Phase"), many have grown to love their place in the cultural firmament.

Schwartz does a great job describing the battles to get the show made and gets the pages turning as we wonder if his series will ever be what he wants it to be.
Schwartz obviously went through a lot getting the show on the air but his description of his efforts seems to be very self-centered and like one man's battle against all odds.
Schwartz also seems to blame others for the show's demise and failure to be revived in the late 1970s following the "Rescue From Gilligan's Island" movie.

According to the Associated Press, Elroy Schwartz, 77, of Palm Springs, and his writing partner Austin Kalish claim that Schwartz?s older brother, show-producer Sherwood Schwartz, cheated them out of their share of the show?s profits.
Attorneys for Sherwood Schwartz claim there was no basis to reconsider the case after it was litigated in the 1970s.
They also claim to have honored Sherwood Schwartz's request to put his name on the script as a co-writer, and since then he has controlled rights to the show and kept them from their rightful share of rebroadcast income.

We had an episode with Greg's girlfriend (played by Sherwood's daughter, Hope) she had a frog on her head, that's a very uneasy feeling for a performer, they have a tendency to pee.
Sherwood also made me feel a bit more geeky by mentioning, "you sure do know an awful lot about this show!" I confessed that I'd been a lifelong Brady Bunch fan and had mentioned that I've easily seen each episode at least 3-4 times.

We've all seen Sherwood Schwartz' name, hundreds of times if you're American, probably at least 20 times for everyone else, just by sitting through the closing credits of the Brady Bunch.
But if someone asked me 5 minutes ago, "Who's Sherwood Schwartz?" or "Who was the creator of the Brady Bunch?" I couldn't have told you.
Schwartz has indicated several times that he had to pry them apart.

In both the season introduction and in the Episode 3 commentary, creator Sherwood Schwartz talks about different reasons why the show was so successful.
Schwartz was a bit like watching it with your grandfather--he got really tickled by the jokes and pointed out some of the gags excitedly.
He talked a lot during "The Little Dictator" about how important the message of the episode was, furthering the idea that democracy is a very essential ideal--I have to admit that I didn't really find the episode to be as underlying serious as he made it out to be, but it was amusing.
