The Quinebaug and Shetucket Rivers Valley or northeastern Connecticut and south-central Massachusetts has been called "The Last Green Valley" in the sprawling metropolitan Boston-to-Washington corridor.
In the daytime, the green fields and forests confirm the surprisingly rural character of the 1,085 square-mile area defined by the Quinebaug and Shetucket Rivers systems and the rugged hills that surround them.
In the Thames River Basin (most of which is in The Last Green Valley), 81% of the 357.3 miles accessed fully supported aquatic life with no threats.

We reported blueback herring in the river in last week’s weekly report and reports of large stripers in the river are now common.
Shad are generally expected in the river at temperatures of 10 C (50 F).

There is a spot in norwich on the shetucket river where the river deepens and widens just before becoming rapids and then dumping into the thames.
At the north end of the factory, the river was dammed.

The upper river into the shetucket river is pretty hard to navigate by boat, it is where the herring are.
The river seemed to be running good just didn't seem like there were fish there.
