 Shi Summary
The poetry of Tao Qian (365–427) stands out during this period; his poems on turning away from officialdom and embracing the joys of drink and the life of the gentleman farmer were models for later disaffected bureaucrats.
The shi form developed further in the Tang dynasty, with lushi ("regulated verse"—shi whose tonal pattern and rhyme scheme were closely dictated) and jueju ("broken-off lines"), an exceptionally short form of just four lines.
Shi continued as a major poetic form in subsequent eras and even into modern times, but with the compositions of the Tang, the form is considered to have reached its high point.

Chinese Theory and Criticism: 1. Pre-modern Theories of Poetry
Poetry was composed in great quantities--over 40,000 poems survive from the Tang dynasty (618-907) alone--and it generated a proportionate amount of criticism and discussion.
This well-known formula was taken to assert the hermeneutical integrity of the Odes and of poetry generally: by expressing the emotional reactions of their historical authors, the Odes inscribed and preserved for later generations both the personalities of their authors and the social worlds that moved them to song.
Yuan Hongdao (1568-1610) argued against imitation and vehemently rejected the idea that the poetry of some eras is superior to that of others, arguing in effect for a radical revaluation of the received view of the poetic tradition.

The traditional school of ci poetry, called wanyueci 婉約詞 "poems of delicate restraint", lead by Qin Guan 秦觀, a friend of Su Shi, continued to estimate their poems to be expressions of beauty and elegance, and that modes and harmony had to control and to temper language.
Although poetry was already rated as early as by Zhong Rong's 鐘嶸 Shipin 詩品 during the 6th century, Yan Yu's 嚴羽 Canglang shihua 滄浪詩話 was a new kind of lyric theory that deeply influenced critiques of later ages.

This paper explores the interartistic poetics of a unique genre of Chinese poetry known as ti-hua-shi (poetry that comments on and/or represents painting), arguing that it was the Tang poet Du Fu who formulated such poetics through his exemplary style despite the fact that he was not the first to write poetry of this genre.
When ti hua-shi is inscribed on ti shi hua (painting inscribed with poetry) or shi yi tu (painting that renders the idea or theme of poetry) poetic calligraphy and painterly brushwork are blended into an ideogramic and intertextual whole.
This paper argues that in terms of thematic concerns Chinese ti hua shi differs from its Western counterpart of ekphrasic poetry in going beyond the mimetic representation of the painterly scene to present the poet's re creation of the painting and to develop discourses on artists and art, and life and society.

The greatest Chinese poetry was created during the Tang (Tang) dynasty (618-907), a period of general peace and prosperity ending in a decline.
The typical poem of the Tang period was in the so-called shi form, characterized by the five-word or seven-word line, with the rhyme usually falling on the even lines.
Stimulated by the literature of the West, Chinese writers, led by Hu Shi, started a literary revolution known as the Chinese Renaissance in an attempt to urge the written use of colloquial language and to heighten its status as a means of scholarly expression.

About Mir and Ghalib the assumption is also baseless that in Mir's poetry the good verses are few and far between, and if he had made a selection from his poetry as Ghalib did, it would have done him justice.
In contrast, Mir's poetry is a city in which everything that was shut up in the enchantment of that assembly can be seen-- so much so that the city in which that enchantment itself is located, is Mir's poetry alone.
Mir is not a poet of colloquial language, or of the 'poetry of speech'.

One of the richest fields of Arabic poetry is the poetry of lamentation when we observe the vast amount of poetry composed in lament for al-Husayn, in particular and for the revolution of al-Husayn at Karbala', in general.
Perhaps some of this poetry was the work of the women who used to devote themselves to exclamations of grief at the women's rites of remembrance for al-Husayn, they might have wanted to create wonder and amazement by attributing their exclamations of grief to creatures who were not human.
However, the poetry of lament for al-Husayn throughout the ages is a subject rich in possibilities, which is suitable for a variety of types of research which could deal with it from the artistic aspect, for its historical evidence, and from the viewpoint of doctrine, psychology and sociology.
