Divided from the Oshu Kaido route at Kori in Fukushima Prefecture, the old Shichikashuku Kaido route winds though Kosaka Pass, along the seven stages of Kamitozawa, Shimotozawa, Watarase, Seki, Nametsu, Tougeda and Yunohara, and then into Kaminoyama, located in adjacent Yamagata Prefecture.
Watarase now lies beneath a dam, but at other points you can still see the old thatched houses.
