Shis Chien University Wind Ensemble was founded in spring 2001, although young, the group achieved a high level of performing standard under the new appointed conductor, Dr. Harvey Haw Chang.
Chang was educated in the USA under renowned conductor John Wakefield at the University of Maryland in College Park.
In 2001, Dr. Chang return to Taiwan and was invited to teach in Shih Chien University Dept. of Music as full time Assistant Professor, in charging of the wind and percussion division and the training of the new wind ensemble.

Shih-Chien University is advertising for full-time teachers at their English Center and for their Department of Applied Foreihn Languages in Kaohsiung.
Following the original posting of the new version of the ad, Shih Chien University has been using a new, larger version of the ad.
University faculty are forbidden from teaching at a bushiban (private cram school), but private classes that you arrange with outside students are no problem as long as they, "maintain the dignity of the school".

MARCH 31, 2006--Six University of Wisconsin-River Falls students and a faculty member recently returned to River Falls, Wis., after spending spring break in Taiwan — and already they are looking forward to future tours there.
They toured the Shih Chien campus, Lungshan Temple, the Matyrs Shrine, National Palace Museum, Gold Ecological Park, Chiufen, the Northeast Coast National Scenic Area, the Taipei World Trade Center, Taipei 101 (one of the tallest buildings in the world), the Taiwan Design Center, Digital Content Institute, Maokong, Yingge, Wulai, and the Shihlin Night Market.
Shih Hsin students can complete three years there and come to UW-RF for their last year and earn a dual degree from both institutions.

 Hsieh Tung-ming - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
His brother, Hsieh Min-chu is the president of Shih Chien University.
He became the first magistrate of Kaohsiung County in 1948, later Vice-director of Education of Taiwan Province, chancellor of National Taiwan Normal University, Secretary of Taiwan Province and Chief Councillor of Taiwan Province Council.
Hsieh became the ninth governor of Taiwan Province in 1972.

We were the first university to institute compulsory language training for all students regardless of major for four years of study (Am I wrong?).
Taiwan universities and the MOE are increasingly moving toward the adoption of language mega projects aimed at addressing the language proficiency crises.
MOE talk of exit testing for university graduates appears to have vanished like a ghost in the night but it is being replaced by a new 'solution'.

What is generally missing from almost all news is a description of the way in which teachers and curriculum have turned into a political force driving education into public and commercial schools, in turn blocking the development of a fully modernized system of education.
Previously, the Dean of Education at National Taiwan Normal University, Dr. Lin is a strong proponent of the localization of professional knowledge and examination content.
For example, while the MOE has been able to mobilize a highly competent teaching force for the elementary English program, the secondary school English programs, as well as university and other entrance examinations continue to be based on the curriculum established during martial law.

Friends from the University of the Pacific in Stockton arranged for Chang Dai-chien to be awarded an honorary doctorate in 1974 and hosted a major exhibition and related symposium there.

 Sister Institution Visit
Shih Hsin University President Paul Tzung-Tsann Mu, along with a delegation of administrators and students from its campus in Taiwan, visited the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Feb. 10 and announced the establishment of two one-year scholarships for UW-RF students.
The announcement strengthens the sister institution agreement between the two universities that was established in 1999, which includes a business administration degree articulation agreement with the UW-RF College of Business and Economics as well as language teacher exchanges.
Once a community college focused on training journalists, Shih Hsin University has evolved into a comprehensive liberal arts university offering a full range of media studies.
