  President Cheng's UK tour arrives at Sheffield Hallam university | News | Sheffield Hallam University
The president of a top Taiwanese University visited Sheffield Hallam University on Tuesday (8 May, 2001) as part of a UK tour which also took in the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge and the University of the West of England.
Sheffield Hallam University is planning to send students to Taiwan as part of a new BA International Business Studies with Mandarin course, which is likely to start in 2002.
Shih Hsin University is a private institution whose main strength is in Media, Communications and Journalism.

A sister university to SVSU, Shih Hsin is one of Taiwan’s oldest institutions of higher learning.
Prior to his appointment at SHU, Mu was named founding president of National Dong Hwa University, which was formally inaugurated in July 1994.

National Taiwan University (NTU) developed library science undergraduate program in 1961, and gradually to graduate level in 1980 and 1989 to doctorate respectively, and changed name to LIS in 1987, in 2001, it added continuing education program.
Shih-Hsin University’s (SHU) library science was established in 1964, with non-degree offered as the school was a junior college, and was interrupted during 199301994 while the school was undergoing its transmission to university.
National Chiao-Tong University’s Library cooperates with University’s Computer Center to establish this technology-oriented program at graduate level as to train for digital library staffs, the program is considered a new comer of the profession.

At the final of the 4th Debate Contest for Cross-Strait Universities held in Taibei, RUC Debate Team beat Shih Hsin University of Taiwan and won the championship in the Competition, which is the best ever achievement for RUC since it first participated in the Event.
And those from Taiwan are Taiwan University, Chengchi University, Shih Hsin University, Ming Chuan University, Soochow University, and Chung Cheng University.
RUC defeated Chengchi University in the preliminary contest and the Chung Cheng University in the semi-final, and eventually captured the championship by beating Shih Hsin University in the final.

Szu worked on the follow-up phase of the Project, culminating in 1995 with her dissertation, "Marriage as environment: Toward a model of processes of adaptation in marriage." Currently, she is an associate professor in the Department of Social Psychology at Shih-Hsin University, Taipei, Taiwan.

Shih Hsin University President Paul Tzung-Tsann Mu, along with a delegation of administrators and students from its campus in Taiwan, visited the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Feb. 10 and announced the establishment of two one-year scholarships for UW-RF students.
The announcement strengthens the sister institution agreement between the two universities that was established in 1999, which includes a business administration degree articulation agreement with the UW-RF College of Business and Economics as well as language teacher exchanges.
Once a community college focused on training journalists, Shih Hsin University has evolved into a comprehensive liberal arts university offering a full range of media studies.

The survey polled a total of 1,100 people between the ages of 15 and 64 nationwide and was conducted via face-to-face interviews by Shih Hsin University's Institute of Public Opinion in April and May. The survey this year was the third of its kind, though some new indicators were added.
Su Chien-chou, a journalism professor at Shih Hsin University, said that compared to last year's poll, the overall rankings for each category did not change drastically.
However the most notable change was that newspaper readership was on the decline, dropping almost 7 percent from last year to 61.98 percent, while the percentage of people who obtain news from the Internet increased to 62.06 percent this year, surpassing newspapers, Su said.

 TAIWAN President's popularity rating plummets Asia News
Chen is under fire because of his government's poor performance and a string of scandals implicating his family.
The latest survey conducted by the Shih Hsin private university revealed that the president's rating had dropped to below 16%, just two months after a similar survey by the DPP, the democratic party in government, had put his rating at 18%.
Of the 1,063 respondents to the survey of the Shih Hsin university, 70.4% were dissatisfied with Chen's performance.

Taiwan investors prefer high-risk,high-return investment, and their willingness to take risks is closely related to their self-confidence and body mass index (BMI),according to a recent survey.

The survey result finds that Taiwan investors are more likely to be attracted by high-risk investments that yield high returns, and that their weight and degree of optimism also affect their decision-making.

In other findings, over half of the respondents said they have been affected by secondhand smoke in public places, and 37 percent said they had been exposed to secondhand smoke in an indoor workplace, said Steve Liang, the director of the Institute of Public Opinions at Shih Hsin University.
Liang noted that the results also showed that nearly 80 percent of the respondents expected smokers to respect others' right to breathe and not smoke in indoor public spaces, with 92 percent saying they would support a complete ban on smoking in indoor public spaces and workplaces.
