Shiira is definately faster than firefox in the UI department, having grown used to the 1-2 second delay in doing something with firefox, Shiira still amazes me with the responsiveness.

Shiira has one feature that I like but have not seen on any other browser (which they all need) and that is the ability to move the order of your open tabs.

Although Shiira is still in beta and has a few interface bugs and inconsistencies, it's incredibly well-formed and has a great deal of promise.
The first thing you'll notice when you download Shiira is that the DMG file is under 2MB in size.
You can tell Shiira to display the previously selected tab, or the tab to the right of the just-closed tab (which is Safari's method).

Shiira, like OmniWeb, is a web browser based on Apple's "Web Kit" and written in Cocoa.
Shiira has some beautiful and truly unique user interface features; pictures tell the story better than words do.
Now if only Shiira saved the open window/tab state like Opera and was a tad faster, it would be the perfect browser for me. But as it stands it's still a hell of good browser, given how recently it arrived at v1.

right now shiira is on 0.9.2.2 - i've been using it in tandem with safari and camino for the last month or so, though it has reduced the amount of time i now spend with camino.
i find that shiira is a 'meld' of both - the brushed metal of safari and the bookmarks tab and round buttons of camino.

And in many ways Shiira already has more built-in functionality than Safari -- starting from the end user choice between Aqua and Brushed Metal GUI, customizing search engines, customizing the toolbar icons, history pop-up menues on the 'back' and 'forward' buttons, to monitoring memory and cache usage.
In short, Shiira is a well-implemented browser that exceeds features and functionality of Safari, brings some 'old' Cocoa drawer flair (with some minor bugs), while maintaining the speed and page render of Safari.
By its looks, Shiira's closest cousin could be OmniWeb 5, but as I mentioned earlier, OmniWeb does tweak the Web Kit to render some more complex or 'problematic' code more successfully compared to Safari.

Shiira is based, like Safari, on Apple's WebKit, rather than the supposedly faster Gecko engine in Camino and FireFox.
Shiira 1.0 presents a very Safari-like aspect, but go to Bookmarks and you will notice the first difference: bookmarks are displayed in a slide-out tray rather than taking over the whole screen.
Considering it started off as a personal experiment with WebKit, Shiira is shaping up into a very polished product, and we are looking forward to its next release.

To paraphrase its developer, mkino and his HMDT, Shiira (the name means 'dolphinfish', aka Dorado) is a Cocoa-written web browser that uses the KHTML Web Kit rendering engine (the same one as used in Safari web browser) provided by Apple.
Rendered web pages look identical in Safari and Shiira (to differentiate it from OmniWeb 5 that also uses the Web Kit but it modifies it for its browser).
The Shiira Project is an attempt to development a web browser using Web Kit.
