Mirror symmetry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Andrew Strominger, Shing-Tung Yau, and Eric Zaslow have showed that mirror symmetry is a special example of T-duality: the Calabi-Yau manifold may be written as a fiber bundle whose fiber is a three-dimensional torus.

 Shing-Tung Yau
Yau has made profound contributions to mathematics with his unparalleled ability for combining the theories of nonlinear partial differential equations and differential geometry.
Yau, working collaboratively with Richard M. Schoen, solved a long-standing open problem in relativity theory, by showing the positivity of mass for space-time.
Yau's work is distinguished by its enormous breadth, power and insight.

People's Daily Online -- World famous mathematician slams academic corruption in China
Yau said China's mathematical research was close to the top level in the world before the Cultural Revolution in the 1960s, when much of academia was purged in the campaign for ideological purity.
Yau, who is the only Chinese American winner of the Fields Medal, lashed out at rampant plagiarism in Chinese academia in an interview by a Beijing newspaper.
Yau, a professor at Harvard University, has many contacts with Chinese students and researchers and pays close attention to the training of mathematicians in China.

 YAU
Professor Shing-Tung Yau was awarded a Fields Medal in 1982 for his contributions in the area of geometric partial differential equations, including his solution of the Calabi Conjecture in algebraic geometry, his solution of the Positive Mass Conjecture in general relativity, and his work on real and complex Monge-Ampere equations.
In 1981 Yau was awarded The Oswald Veblen Prize in Geometry, in 1994 the Crafoord Prize of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and in 1997 the National Medal of Science.
In other work Yau constructed minimal surfaces, studied their stability, and made a deep analysis of how they behave in space-time.

China's reverse brain drain plan 'risks backfiring' - SciDev.Net
Shing-tung Yau, a Chinese-born professor based at Harvard University, made the remarks at a seminar on mathematics in Beijing on 3 August.
According to a report in the Beijing-based newspaper Science Times on 18 August, Yau said that many of the foreign researchers failed to do full-time research, as required by their contracts, yet were paid several times more than their local counterparts.
For 20 years, Yau has helped China organise international scientific exchanges and attract foreign researchers of Chinese origin to teach and do research in China.

Another corollary is a proof of the equivalences of all of the known classical complete metrics to the new metrics, in particular Yau's conjectures on the equivalences of the Kahler-Einstein metric to the Teichmuller and the Bergman metric.
Based on the detailed analysis of these new metrics, we have a good understanding of the Kahler-Einstein metric from which we prove that the logarithmic cotangent bundle of the moduli space is stable.
