  Shining Force Neo > Review
Shining Force 3 was a three-part masterpiece that told a story of war on a grand scale with each part offering a different viewpoint on the same, three-sided war.
Shining Force Neo changes all that, but don't expect the game to be your father's Shining Force game.
In the end, Shining Force Neo is a game better-suited to a newcomer than to anyone familiar with the series, as the key to enjoying it is coming to the controller with absolutely no expectations of what the game should be like.

Gaming Target - Game Boy Advance: Shining Force: The Resurrection of Dark Dragon - Preview
Shining Force, which wowed Genesis owners in the early nineties with its bright, colorful graphics and strategic but simple gameplay, is seeing a resurgence of late with the Shining Soul series and this latest iteration, which will be a remake of the original Shining Force, albeit with a few new additions and enhancements.
The original Shining Force series was a strategic role-playing game that focused on a amnesiac protagonist who, along with a motley crew of followers, rises to protect the kingdom of Guardiana from the evil hordes of Runefaust.
Another thing that set Shining Force apart was the ability to promote your character once he or she reached level ten, which basically changed your character’s appearance and enhanced his or her inherent abilities.

 Shining Force Neo - GameCritics.com
Shining Force fans will be disappointed to learn that this isn't a traditional Shining Force title.
Mention Shining Force to gamers who came of age in the 16-bit era and you're likely to see them smile fondly as they recall memories of two of the best strategy RPGs ever to grace a home console.
The Lodoss War influence is readily apparent throughout Shining Force Neo—the little sound and animation for when players warp home to their base are pretty much identical, for example—and that's a good thing.

Shining Force NEO Hands-On Impressions - PlayStation 2 News at GameSpot
Sega's Shining Force series made its name on a number of popular turn-based strategy games, so it's somewhat surprising that Shining Force NEO isn't a strategy game at all.
The newest entry into the classic Shining Force line is instead a real-time, hack-and-slash adventure that pits your character and a small party against mobs of all different sorts of monstrous creatures.
Shining Force NEO doesn't have a whole lot in common with the Shining Force heritage in general, but it seems to be loaded with plenty of hack-and-slash oomph for those who enjoy wading in never-ending seas of choppable evil.

The Shining Series as a whole is a trademark rpg series from Sega much in the way that the Final Fantasy Series is a trademark rpg series for SquareEnix.
The overall story seems to be light in terms of seriousness of a heavy in-depth rpg storyline and this in terms reflect on how the characters are represented to us.
It's sad that Shining Tears by any means doesn't carry the tradition of what made the Shining series a great rpg series from Sega.

As with previous Shining Force titles, SFIII's battle engine is a very simple and small-scale one for a game centered around tactical combat; since character management and resource allocation don't come into play much, victory is mainly a matter of positioning your units for maximum offensive clout and minimal risk.
Speaking of Vandal Hearts, Shining Force III adds a number of wrinkles to the basic gameplay of its predecessors that are reminiscent of Konami's entry into the strat/RPG field.
When all is said and done, Shining Force III isn't the game it could have been, but it's a respectable and very playable sequel that brings some strong new play mechanics to the Shining Force series, and the writing is also much stronger.

January 26, 2005 - Sega's Shining Tears is an action-oriented PS2 RPG based on the classic Shining Force series that debuted over a decade ago on the Genesis console.
Although we have yet to experience Shining Tears for ourselves, it seems to be considerably more weighted toward action than its illustrious forbears, which were quite strategic in nature.
In addition, with a gap of more than seven years since the release of Shining Force III in 1997, the franchise's level of market appeal may not be what it once was.
