Shinjo’s group was one of the pioneers in the field of metallic multilayer studies.
Shinjo and Hiefumi Yamamoto demonstrated in 1990 that a non-coupled GMR multilayer, whose structure may be Co/Cu/NiFe/Cu for instance, exhibits sensitive resistance change in moderate magnetic fields.

This increase in demand has prompted Sharp to continuously boost manufacturing capacity at the Shinjo Plant: capacity was 30.00 MW (14.9% of world share) in 1999, 50.40 MW (17.5%) in 2000, and 75.02 MW (19.2%) in 2001.
The building of a third solar cell manufacturing line for multi-crystal silicon solar cells at the Shinjo No. 3 Plant is a big step in this direction and brings the number of solar cell lines at the plant to five (1 single-crystal silicon solar cell line, 4 multi-crystal silicon solar cell lines).

The Nara Prefecture Board of Education has decided to hold extracurricular English classes for first and second graders at 10 public elementary schools on a trial basis in the 2004 school year starting in April, prefectural officials said Thursday.

The Shinjo Street Shopping Arcade was quite a site with all its flashing lights, rivaling the energy and frenzy of Shinjuku in Tokyo.
In Pontocho St. and Gion, we caught a glimpse of Keiko performing dance (via peeking thru window) Kyoto Rail Station is amazing in its architectural form – built in steel and glass, 11th stories high with wide open terrace stairs with artistic flair.
For a change of pace, we made daytrips to Himeji castle and Nara To-Kae (candle light festival).

With the market expected to grow to a gigawatt this year, Sharp moved in June to increase its yearly production capacity to 315 megawatts, spending some $36 million to expand capacity at its Shinjo Plant, in Japan's Nara Prefecture.
The new solar-cell structure is destined for the outer walls of buildings in Japan, where the panel will illuminate the building's exterior as well as its immediate surroundings.
