Don Macnaughtan - Lane Community College Library - The Bells of Sunday Island
Grandfather Bell, his wife and family of six children, obtained a passage on the vessel "Norval", under command of Capt. MacKenzie, from Samoa to Sunday Island, with an agreement that the ship would call back in a few months to see how they were making out.
The Bells now decided to explore the Island, which covers an area of 7,260 acres, although the family consider it nearly twice that size owing to the steep cliffs and the ruggedness.
The excitement for the Bell children may well be imagined when this ship would blow her siren on arrival at the Island.
