Disney Magic Cruise Ship from Disney Cruise Lines
The bathrooms on Magic are unique in that they are divided into a "bath and a half" configuration in all but the least expensive inside cabins.
The deck parties on Magic were the most widely attended (by all age groups) of any I have ever seen and no one quit until the lights were out.
Note: You can bring liquor on board Disney ships and you may use it in your stateroom, but if you buy duty-free from their shop, it is held for you until the end of the cruise.

Still, grown-ups as well as kids are likely to enjoy this stunning ship, whose cabins are huge and beautifully decorated, because it has that Disney quality of attention to detail and finding something interesting in everything you see.
Disney's cuisine has improved dramatically since the ship was introduced, to the point at which it can now be said to rival Princess's, with All-American and Continental fare likely to please all but the most sophisticated palate.
The deck parties on Magic are some of the most enthusiastically attended at sea, with the Pirates of the Caribbean one being a particular highlight.

 About Your Ship: Disney Magic
The experiment was such a success that the company commissioned two ships to be built to exacting Disney standards, with the most modern technology inside and the sleek classical lines of earlier ocean-going ships on the outside.
In all, this ship is a study in contrasts, blending elegant sophistication on the one hand and joyous, Disney-fied abandon on the other, ultimately merging perfectly into a wonderful whole.
Magic alternates seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, but in May, 2005, she will move to the West Coast for 12 weeks, offering seven-night Mexican Riviera cruises from Los Angeles to celebrate the 50th birthday of Disneyland.

 Seafaring Magic
For although the Disney Magic is designed to captivate travelers of all ages with plenty of entertainment options and activity areas, a floating theme park it is not.
The Magic was constructed at the Fincantieri Shipyards in Ancona and Venice, Italy, where finishing touches are now being completed on its sister ship, the Disney Wonder, set to sail by summer's end.
The ship's other main restaurants are Lumiere's, with a French flair inspired by Beauty and the Beast; and Parrot Cay, where Caribbean cuisine is served in a casual setting and lighting creates the look of an indoor/outdoor environment under the palm trees.

The SF Site Featured Review: Ship of Magic
Ship of Magic is the newest from Robin Hobb, author of the acclaimed Farseer Trilogy.
The start of a new series, Ship of Magic is set in the same world as the trilogy but is, so far, entirely unrelated.
It is a tale set around Liveships -- sentient, magical sailing ships -- for which families mortgage themselves for generations to build and which are unparalleled on the sea.

Ship of Magic is a sea tale, reminiscent of Moby Dick and Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin series in its details of shipboard life.
The liveships have distinct personalities and partner with specific people, somewhat like Anne McCaffrey's Brain ships and their Brawns, though these are trading ships and have full crews.
Their stories are intercut with those of Kennit, the ambitious pirate Brashen, the disinherited scion of another family who served on the Vestritt's ship, and Paragon, an old liveship abandoned and believed mad.

Merchants, pirates, slavers, and hunters (meat ships) are all brought to life in a fantasy setting that seems to draw on the 18th century British Empire for its inspiration.
There are several stories going on in this book: Althea's quest to regain her ship, Kennit's quest to become a king of pirates, Ronica's quest to keep her family together, the serpents' quest for who-knows-what, the mystery of Paragon, the political intrigue surrounding Bingtown and, most compelling of all, Wintrow's story.
His youngest daughter, Althea, feels her it is her rightful legacy to command the Vivacia but the elders of the family, her mother, Ronica, and her older sister, Keffria, persuade Ephron before his death that it is in the family's best interests to give the captain's chair to Keffria's husband, Kyle Haven.

Cybamuse Independent Book Reviews - Fantasy: Robin Hobb
After the slow meandering of Ship of Magic, it was good to have a solid read - and at 906 pages - it had to be readable!
After wasting an entire novel setting up the scenario Ship of Magic, Hobb now grabbed the reigns and plunged her characters into increasingly desperate situations which have you compulsively turning the page.
The story focuses on Althea, a daughter with an affinity for a Liveship; Kyle, the shallow and mean brother-in-law who inherits her ship, Kennit, a pirate with grand dreams.

One thing I like about Hobb's books is most magic (leaving aside some examples) operates at a 'background' level and life for the characters is often quite mundane.
