  Dr. Shirley Fry
Shirley Fry was the assistant director of the Medical Sciences Division (MSD) of ORAU from 1980 until she retired in February 1995.
Fry is the author or coauthor of a number of scientific publications on the acute and long-term health effects of radiation.
Fry and her husband, Michael, also a physician and formerly the head of the Carcinogenesis Section of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory's (ORNL's) Biology Division, live in Oak Ridge.

She went on to win the French singles in 1950 and 1952, Wimbledon in 1951, and the U.S. singles in 1954 and 1955.
In 1951, she beat her long-time doubles partner, Shirley Fry in the Wimbledon finals.

Known as the fastest player of her day, Shirley Fry Irvin (b.1927) was ranked in the Top 10 from 1944 to 1956, reaching No.1 in 1956.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Fry excelled at tennis under her father's guidance, becoming the youngest player at the U.S. nationals in 1941.
Following a brief retirement Fry was invited to compete on the 1956 Wightman Cup Team and, in an amazing comeback, went on to win the Wimbledon, U.S., and Australian singles championships.
