It was always going to be difficult for Jenny Morris to follow the success of Shiver, but Honeychild was not the way to go about it.
The biggest single from this disc, "Break in the Weather," is a re-write of Shiver's "She Has to Be Loved," yet it's still the disc's best track; an indication of the quality of the rest.
Not one of her better albums, Honeychild remains the last noteworthy Jenny Morris release.

In her promotional work on the album, Natalie was quick to distance herself from other soap actresses come pop stars, emphasising her indie-influenced song-writing abilities and the credibility of her producer, former Cure bassist Phil Thornally.
The second half of the album is less impressive, serving up a succession of slightly plodding, mediocre songs, all of which are perfectly decently sung and performed, but which simply leave the listener cold.
She rarely plays live, preferring to promote her albums in the press and on TV, so that whenever a new album is released it feels like a comeback, lacking any momentum from the previous release.

In the first version of this site, the most extreme reaction I had was that my view of this album is all wrong.
I know that it was immensely successful in Australasia, but it still seems to me an album short on a few ideas.
However, songs like Save Me, Bag lady and Self Deceiver seem, to me, to be underdeveloped, giving the album, overall, a faintly flat tone, and Shiver itself is a wildly disappointing title track.

He produced the album 'Shiver' and played on a lot of her songs.
As it turns out the titletrack 'Salvation Jane' is the same song that's on the compilation CD 'Definitive INXS' Written by Andrew Farris.

The unfettered sentimentality that marked the original TV special and the wry wisdom of these enduring characters are captured here and there in an album that manages to reinvent the magic of cartoon characters and the Christmas season, complete with a brief respite of Für Elise and lite jazz style that permeates the overall mix.
This album has to be an interpretation and it's a pretty good one at that.
