Shmuel Zakai - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Zakai resigned as commander of the IDF's Gaza Division, a position he had held since March 2004, after failing a polygraph test during an investigation into leaks to the Israeli media during the "Days of Penitence" operation in the northern Gaza Strip in October 2004.
Zakai's brief tenure as head of the Gaza Division was marked by a dramatic increase in attacks on Palestinian areas, including "Operation Rainbow" directed against Rafah in southern Gaza (May 2004) and "Operation Days of Penitence" against the northern Gaza Strip (October 2004).
Zakai is a graduate of the IDF Staff College and has a degree in humanities from Tel Aviv University.

Zakai had resigned from his post last week in the wake of failing a polygraph test conducted to locate a leak to the media.
Zakai, a former Golani Brigade commander, was a personal favorite of Mofaz, who as chief of general staff gave him a highly irregular personal promotion to brigadier general even before he assumed command of a division.
The leaks to the media that Zakai was suspected of revolved around disagreement between the IDF and the government over the continued and aggressive Operation Day of Repentance in the northern Gaza Strip last month.

Brigadier-General Shmuel Zakai, commander of the Rafah "Operation Rainbow", said in Tel Aviv that one of those killed in the protest had been identified as a "terrorist" although military sources said later that they could not say whether he was armed at the time.
The running dispute between the army and human rights groups, who have been pressing for an independent inquiry into the deaths of the demonstrators, is complicated by the fact that the army say eight people were killed.
General Zakai's briefing came after the Israelis lifted their siege on the Tel Sultan neighbourhood, and thousands joined the funeral procession for 16 Palestinians killed during the seven-day incursion there.

The chairman of the Knesset Labor and Social Committee, MK David Tal (Shas), accepted an interim report dealing with labor shortages in high-tech, which was prepared by a panel of “experts” headed by Professor Shmuel Ben Zakai.

Wouldn’t it be encouraging if Tal emphasized high-tech as a solution to Israel’s economic independence, and proposed the necessary economic reforms, rather than accept the report’s claim that start-ups are not a solution?
