Nanostray is a vertical 3-D shmup, which is very uncommon coming from a dying genre.
Any fan of 2D shmups, will be pleased with Radilgy; the game is a pleasure to play with its bright visuals and arrears of collectible (food) items.
I consider shmups to be the last real classic game genre still alive - games in which score, skill, technique, replayability, and finely honed 2-dimensional gameplay are all-important.

“shmup”, being some ungainly contraction of “shoot-em-up”, is a fairly dumb and ugly word we inherit from the european videogame press.
I was more offended about the criticism of the word shmup than the actual press themselves.
The dragon shmup web-page will actually be seperate from the CMS, and it wil show awards for the good games, etc. The page will also show all of our sponsors.

Yes, the basics of the gameplay derive from Defender--it's a sidescrolling shmup in which you can 'flip' your ship to move and fire either right or left, and enemies approach from both sides of the screen.
Charlie Knight, its creator, is clearly a long-standing enthusiast of the genre; he's created a highly polished, well executed examplar of the form, complete with "Minter levels" as an homage to Jeff Minter's landmark games.
Shmup fans will find a lot to like here; novices are advised to turn the difficulty down as low as it will go (which isn't much).

For those who don't know what a shooter is, a shooter usually refers to one of 'those' games where you control a your ship or character, against waves and waves of enemy fire.
A shmup is one of those games where you struggle to find refuge anywhere on a screen drenched with bullets from the enemy, which is also clogged with enemy aircraft, tanks, ships, and anything else they need to eliminate you from the equation.
Throughout dodging and weaving through the waves of enemy shots, your ship must also cross the line of fire to collect power-ups and points...that is, until you become a mess of flaming hope.

Manic shmups were a fairly new genre during this time period and a lot of its eventual conventions were still being figured out by developers.
Another 'normal' manic shmup after two of them is probably too much of the same.
The conventional shmup player at the bottom loses a whole life bar everytime they are hit (exception: the primary gun of the boss takes away life gradually).

So this Manic Shmup Insanity Celebration is about bringing some of the better but still obscure shmups that have been created in the last decade to all of you.
Most of these shmups are designed to slowdown at least a little, but you might want to run them with F11 for a little while to make sure it is as intended.
I think this is a handy and fun training tool for shmups in general (scroll down and download sdmkun-1.5.7).

It was at this point that I realized I owned a little under 1/5th of the entire Saturn shmup collection, and being the avid Saturn collector I am I decided to go all the way with it.
While researching the Saturn shmup collection, I had read that Batsugun was a great game and supposedly the "grandfather of manic shmups." So, being an avid Mars Matrix fan, I bought the game from Matt and not a minute too soon, for a few months later the price of it went up to 70$!
Game Tengoku is easily in my top 3 shmups of all time, and is one of the funniest, most beautiful, and most enjoyable games I have ever played.

My goal is to bring a positive spin to shmup's by putting everyone that likes to make them together.
With better shmups on the shelves, portals that are more into arcade / action games can expect more sales and everyone has nothing but benefit coming out of this.

This is where you can bust out the traditional shmup bombs, but the trick is that each bomb depletes your currently-selected weapon, so be ready to switch to a backup.
You'll need more than a bit of luck and skill to beat this guy, but even with the low-res graphics, the pretty and intense fight and the meaty explosions are worth the price of admission.

I was playing Gradius V a few days ago and I just saw some new pics of Sengoku blade collection on the ps2.
I am not sure why..I mean sure, first time playing all shmup I get that feeling, but after I beat it and I am trying to put a magical score in the game I don't really get that feeling anymore.
Unlike with Cave games...no matter when or how many times I play the game I still feel like I am playing it for the first time and often mess around, but that is part of it.

that shmup had a cool unique weapon system that I have yet to see be beaten.
I haven't tried Einhander yet, but I heard it's the best shmup on the Playstation along with Gradius Gaiden which is fun, but way too hard.
They're usually a vertically scrolling game in which you control a character, usually a space ship, against impossible odds of ememies and bullets.

The contest launched about 3 months ago, and it was named "DRAGON SHMUP" - as the days passed by, more and more people signed up and started announcing their intentions to enter.
The site was founded in December of 2005 with the primary goal of improving the shmup genre in the casual sphere.
