Shoal Lake is a lake in extreme west of Ontario, Canada, northwest of Lake of the Woods.
Depending on the water level of Lake of the Woods, Shoal Lake runs both into and out of Lake of the Woods and, for many practical purposes, is part of that lake.
This pressure is being fought by local cottagers and the City of Winnipeg who have used the lake as its main source of safe drinking water for almost 100 Years.

Lansing Shoals are located approximately 4 ½ miles northeast of Squaw Island, at the northern end of a narrow passage through which vessels are forced to navigate on their trip between the Straits and the northern harbors of Lake Michigan and Green Bay.
During this storm, winds of 126 miles per hour were recorded at Lansing Shoal, and the station was coated with seven inches of ice, and most of the porthole windows were blown out, causing the keepers to ride out the storm in an inner room within the crib.
The Lansing Shoals Light was one of the last to be built on the Great Lakes, and thus was one of the shortest lived.

Since the early 70's, all of my Lake of the Woods trips have centered around Sportsman's Lodge on Wheelers point which is on the south end of the big lake.
I have been too, and seen more lodges on Lake of the Woods than I could list from memory and this place blows them all away just because of the people and the way they manage it....they are that helpful and friendly.
The rule is "IF" you catch a walleye in shoal lake, you cannot even bring it INTO the boat for a photo op..IF you catch a walleye by accident (and this happens) you are to cut the line.
