 Picture Scroll the Tale of Genji (National Tresure)
Many other sets of illustrations of Genji have been created over the centuries, but none rival these in communicating the emotional tenor of the novel through the keen artistic sensibility expressed in the illustrations and the beauty of the calligraphy.
Shogakukan is delighted to have the opportunity, with the permission of the Tokugawa Art Museum, to reproduce both the illustrations and calligraphy of Takekawa-II and Kashiwagi-III of the Picture Scroll of the Tale of Genji, and to issue them in hanging scroll and framed editions.
The Tale of Genji is a world-famous novel written by Lady Murasaki Shikibu a thousand years ago and is a major part of Japan's cultural legacy.

Shogakukan has announced that it is investigating the FCC's use of a mascot for their Kidszone website that appears to be a violation of Shogakukan's intellectual property.
Shogakukan did not authorize the FCC's use of their character, and will be contacting the FCC in writing regarding the issue.

Shogakukan has announced it will start two new 'light novel' libraries, Gagaga Bunko for boys and Lululu Bunko for girls, in Spring 2007.
As part of the project, Shogakukan is also looking for new talent via the Shogakukan Light Novel Grand Prize contest.
The winner will get two million yen and have his or her manuscript published in one of the two light novel series.

Viz, LLC and ShoPro Entertainment will merge this spring into a new company that will be jointly owned by manga giants Shogakukan and Shueisha with licensing powerhouse ShoPro Entertainment Japan.
Viz, which is currently owned by Shogakukan and Shueisha, is the publisher of such top-selling manga as Rurouni Kenshin, InuYasha, and Naruto; as well as the anime house responsible for the U.S. release of InuYasha, Pokemon, and Ceres, Celestial Legend.
The new entity will handle North American licensing for Shueisha properties in addition to those controlled by Shogakukan on an all rights basis, including TV broadcast, publishing, home video, consumer products, and promotions.
