Before I played Island Thunder my opinion of Tom Clancy’s titles was far from a high one; I viewed them as some of the worst group of shooters that I have ever played.
Island Thunder sticks to its tactical roots, but doesn’t forget that video games were made to provide entertainment.
Island Thunder is certainly an improvement to the original Ghost Recon, and a very good game in its own right.

The island, as well as decayed remnants of old piers, are visible by motorists passing on the Bayonne Bridge between Staten Island and Bayonne, New Jersey.

Swinburne Island is the smaller of two artificial islands located in the Lower New York Bay (the other being Hoffman Island) that were used to quarantine immigrants to the U.S. that were found to have been carrying contagious diseases upon arrival at Ellis Island.
The island is of artificial origin, and was originally called Dix Island, but was renamed in honor of Dr. John Swinburne (May 30, 1820-April 4, 1889), a noted military surgeon during the American Civil War.
The island is now managed by the National Park Service as part of the Staten Island Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area.
