Plastic shopping bag having a reinforced handle portion - Patent 4125220
More particularly, it has been suggested heretofore that plastic shopping bags can be fabricated by providing a comparatively wide plastic film tubing as a starting material, said tubing having a pair of reinforcement strips formed on the opposing sides thereof, e.g., during the extrusion of the plastic tubing.
A plastic shopping bag is provided with an integral handle portion of wave configuration having a strip of reinforcement material therein of heavier gauge plastic than the remainder of the bag.
The thicker plastic film section is not as easily seamable as the thinner sections, which makes it difficult to produce consistent side seams in rapid mass production.

By setting his film in a shopping mall, Romero was able to serve up a clever and biting anti-consumerism message that has been almost totally drained from this remake.
When Romero made his film, the indoor shopping mall was a relatively new phenomenon that wasn’t the staple of the American shopping experience that it is today.
That being said, this is also a film that is really quite effective in its ability to scare one to death, and then back to life (as a zombie).

 Cinema-Tourism: The 4th International Bangkok Film Festival, 16 - 25 November 2001
Very few, if any, cinemas in Bangkok exist independent of a shopping mall structure; it is the co-evolution of movies and shopping, where commercials are played alongside trailers before the start of a film, and the two, or even three, look virtually the same.
The Bangkok Film Festival was as much (if not more) an elaborate advertising campaign as it was a celebration of contemporary cinema, and mingling its commodity status with artistic vision, the cinema of the region offered an unusual outlet for tourism.
World Cinema films, by contrast, were honest and provocative, and as Asian films made abroad (almost all World Cinema films featured Asian actors or directors), they explored the tougher issues of reconciling Asian identity to a Western world.

The Chinese horror film Bio Zombie is a parody of this film, as the plot is similar in where its characters must fight their way out of a shopping mall full of zombies.
The film, shot during a period of approximately four months in late 1977 and early 1978, was made on a relatively low budget of around US$1.5 million.

The Rug Company - Ushak Kilim Rugs
Shopping should be fun, especially for such delightful items as kilim rugs, but everyone knows that at times it can be an ordeal.
Occasions which can make shopping unpleasant include having to deal with the proverbial "rug merchant", an individual whose salesmanship is based on wearing down the prospective buyer's resistance with persuasive persistence.
Not weighted down by ancient heritage, Usak still remains quite a traditional Turkish Anatolian town, so we could surmise that its kilim designs are apt to carry on motifs and symbols brought by the nomadic Turkish clans that came to Anatolia early in the last millennium.

Guardian Unlimited Film Reviews Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Dawn of the Dead may not be the most well written film - there are many problems such as the sheer number of characters it tries to follow and the pretty terrible dialogue, but it does have zombies and it is extremely gory.
The action sequences in the film are very effective, the effects are flawless, and all in all, I was left feeling utterly drained after such an entertaining film.
First thing to note: the only thing it really has to do with the original are zombies taking over the world and a shopping mall.

DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978) - DIVIMAX DVD
The film has also been equipped with a 5.1 remix in DTS and Dolby Digital flavours; though the rear channels are used sparingly (if logically), a lack of atmospherics seems right in keeping with Dawn of the Dead's sterile sets and, frankly, its lack of tension and fear.
Overlong and underfed, Dawn of the Dead's place in the canon seems assured by dint of it being a film in a disreputable genre that wallows in its grue while presenting a few clear satirical jabs at broad targets.
The common reading of 1978's Dawn of the Dead has it as a satire of this consumerist wonderland, with its zombies wandering around a new-for-the-time shopping centre, and indeed, writer-director George A. Romero is prescient for his discomfort with the burgeoning phenomena of shopping malls.

 Contempt (by L. Proyect)
In 1963, when the film was made, the United States had not only achieved global economic and military dominance, it also had begun to enforce its cultural standards on the rest of the world as well.
Carlo Ponti and Joseph E. Levine, the producers of Jean-Luc Godard's "Contempt", were eager to make a commercial film that would appeal to a broad audience, while exploiting their "edgy" young director's notoriety.
They were interested in a "product" that would sell in art-houses and shopping malls..

BlackNews.com - Column: Black History - Images On Film
In order to generate funding for his films, Micheaux began shopping the concept of an all-Black film to the Black theatres and asking for payment in advance, which he would use to make the film.
During Micheaux's era, most of the films made were silent, and for the most part, Blacks were silent as well as invisible, save for the buck-dancing, shuffling, demeaning images of self-effacing actors such as Hattie McDaniel and Lincoln Perry, also known as Stepin’ Fetchit.
Today, generations after Oscar Micheaux’s revolution in film making, it makes no sense for anyone to say that they are taking a demeaning role because there is nothing else, or that they have to avoid their dream because it is simply unavailable.
