Kapaleeshwarar temple - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The commonly held view is that the temple was built in the 7th century CE by the ruling Pallavas, based on references to the temple in the hymns of the Nayanmars (which however place it at the shore).
The scholarly view that accounts for the discrepancies is that the original temple was built on the shore at the location of the current Santhome Cathedral but was destroyed by the Portugese, and the current temple (which is 1-1.5 km from the shore) was built more recently.
A legend associated with this temple is that Shiva's wife Parvati was distracted by a peacock and did not hear him call out to her.

 Indian Architecture: Ratha Temples, Mahabalipuram
The 'Ratha' cave temples, commonly called the Pancha Pandava ratha (the five chariots of the Pandavas), are a stylistic anomaly marking the point of transition between the earlier tradition of rock-carved cave temples and the later tradition of freestanding stone structures, of the type seen at the nearby Shore Temple.
Because each temple is carved from a single piece of living rock, the Rathas are in a suburb state of preservation and many of their carvings are as fresh today as they were 1,300 years ago.
Carved in the 7th century by the Pallava kings, the Ratha temples are an attempt to imitate free-standing stone construction in the living rock, with not unsatisfactory results.

The Temple of the East is the realm of Inspiration, and from deep inspiration, human culture manifests through development of arts and sciences, including the spiritual paths.

 The Fire-temple at Baku
The Caspian Sea on fire: at dusk, one took a boat out of the harbor, sailing around a promontory until about half a mile from the shore, to a spot where gas wells bubbling to the surface made the sea appear to be boiling.
It often seems as if the fire rolled down from the mountains in large masses with incredible velocity; and during the clear moonshine nights of November and December a bright blue light is observed at times to cover the whole western range.
For unnumbered ages the gas which is generated by the subterranean store of oil has escaped from the fissures in the limestone crag, and the fire of this gas has lighted the prayers of generations of priests, as it blazed and flared away to the heavens.
