Shorinjiryu Shinzen Kyokai and the Legacy of Kori Hisataka
Currently, this organization is the largest grouping of strictly Shorinjiryu practitioners in the world with virtually all having the capability of direct lineage to the Shinan Kori Hisataka and/or the original instructors who came the North America beginning the mid-1960's.
While Shorinjiryu is one of the lesser-known Okinawan forms of karate, it is resplendent in tradition, heritage, and lineage.

The word "kentokukan" in Shorinjiryu Kentokukan Karatedo means "the School for the development of virtue and morals through the study of Karatedo" (Donivan, 1995).

Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karate was founded by Shinan Kori Hisataka (1907-1988) shortly after World War II in Japan.
Shinan Hisataka combined various aspects of his studies of Okinawan Karate (principally with Chotoku Kyan), Judo, Aikijujutsu, Chinese Martial Arts and various Okinawan and Japanese weapons arts.
In the 1980s Kyoshi Myron Lubitsch founded the Shorinjiryu Shinzen Kyokai, an umbrella organisation of the various Shorinjiryu groups descended from the lineage of Shinan Kori Hisataka, apart from the Kenkokan group.

Karate was offered as a recreational activity and the members trained out of the Combatives Room in the Queen's University Phys Ed Center.
Sensei Photis (Peter) Liappis and Sensei Gary Vienneau were the Queen's University Karate Club's original Shorinjiryu instructors beginning in 1972.

On Sunday 22 August, 2004, competitors from NSW and Queensland gathered at Tamworth in northern NSW to contest the 2004 National Championships of the Australian Koshiki Association.
Shihan Jim Griffin (Seiryukan) was the Chief Referee of the tournament, with Sensei Max Estens (Kensuukan) and Sensei Des Paroz (Kengokai) officiating as Referees, whilst Sensei Anne Aylward (Torakai), Sensei Lesley Griffin (Seiryukan) and Sensei Laurie Buxton (Seiryukan) serving as Judges.
Shihan Laurie was the founder of Shorinjiryu in Australia.

I recently met one of your representatives of ShorinjiRyu Karate, Jarret Cooper, and wanted to say that he is a wonderful representation of the style.
I was a dojo mate of Tom Cauley in the summer of 1957 in Virginia Beach, Virginia and we both learned from Masayuki Asaki who later went on to graduate from Virginia Polytechnical Institute as a commercial artist.
