		The terms "longboard" and "shortboard" used to be much clearer back in the days when the differences in length really made a difference.
		Today, we define a "longboard" as a board with a centerfin, and a "shortboard" as one without a centerfin regardless of the true LENGTH of the board.
		So there are some differences in the way we tack, jibe, and steer them, as their design is "closer" to a true shortboard with no provision for a centerboard.

		Basically it's still a funboard for someone your size, so you'll surf it well and have fun riding a smaller board on your way to a real shortboard, which is much smaller than 5'6" x 17 for your size.
		End result shortboard for you is about a 5'6" x 17" x 2" thick tri fin, so all above is big and easy for you to surf.
		You gotta make the decision, whatever you're thinking of is seriously too big to be considered a shortboard for someone your size, and will paddle fine, catch waves easy, compared to what you will end up with if you continue surfing.

		Basically, it's a simple way to take an old shortboard (aka "Kicker") that you have lying around somewhere gathering dust and convert it to something much more useful.

		Surfers that braved the cold were treated to waist to chest-high surf groomed by north/northwest winds for the day-long event.
		The grand prize of a $1000 airline voucher went to first place Open Shortboard competitor Brad Harrell of Virginia Beach, VA. In a close final heat, Harrell squeaked by 2nd place finisher Robby Remson of Surfside Beach, SC by scoring some of the best barrels of the day.
		Terry Green of Myrtle Beach, SC and Laura Parks of Murrells Inlet, SC out-surfed the local competition for 1st and 2nd place, respectively, in the Girls division; while the Silvagni brothers of Kure Beach, NC dominated the Open Longboard division.
