Shoshone is home to a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) facility with helipad, and a tire recycling plant operates a few miles to the north.

Shoshone County suffered comparatively little from the outbreak, though several score of cattle and horses were stolen from the ranges around Weippe, one house and one ferry were burned, the miners were compelled to desist from productive employment for several weeks, and men of all occupations were forced to neglect their usual work.
Thus the people of southern Shoshone, who had borne with fortitude the burdens of county government for so many years, burdens necessarily heavy on account of the paucity of their numbers, were now compelled to pay between four and five per cent taxes for improvements from which they could derive but little benefit.

The historic Shoshone Indians, of the Uto-Aztecan linguistic stock, occupied territory in California, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming, although most of them seemed to be settled in the Snake river area in Idaho.

Today, the Shoshone are still waiting to become a Federally recognized tribe, along with over 200 other Native American tribes such as the California Chumash and the North-Eastern Abenakis.

The tribe signed a compact for Class III gaming in 2000 with the state of Idaho (that was ratified by the State Legislature) but agreed to disagree over the legality of electronic gaming machines until it is determined in federal court.
He said the Sho-Bans have taken no stance on the north Idaho tribes gaming initiative but if anti-gaming groups take it to court, the tribe may have to file a friend of the court brief to support the northern tribes efforts and to protect the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes interests.
