"Shout at the Devil" is a big, dumb, silly movie that's impossible to dislike.
The movie involves the exploits of an Irish-American drunk and a proper Britisher who find themselves in German East Africa just before World War I. The boozer (Lee Marvin) has promised to bring a load of ivory out of the interior.
The movie moves at breakneck speed; it may not be subtle, but it's never boring.

"The Shout" opens during a cricket match between the staff and inmates of an insane asylum, and cricket, of course, is such a crazy game anyway that you can't tell the teams apart.
What makes the movie terrifying is the way in which the outback magic is introduced so naturally into the placid fabric of village life.
There are scenes, for example, in which York reverts to an aboriginal state and scuttles on all fours through her cluttered little kitchen, looking for the man who, by possessing her shoe buckle, possesses her soul.

 Heather Graham: Shout - Movie
Sure, it's not accurate historically and the plot is somewhat predictable (lots of movies out there are, including some classics), but acting, setting, mood, and story are well done, making this a good light-hearted evening watch.
Shout is banal, historically innaccurate and very predictable.
The movie has that slick, deeply saturated color look...lot's of nice atmospheric shots with with simply perfect lighting.

 Retro Thing: Movie Cameras
One of the great things about shooting movies with film rather than cheap and cheery video is that the end result often looks more organic and "real." A case in point: our friend Giles Perkins at onSuper8.org shot a quirky short film at the British seaside on Kodachrome.

 Scary Movie 3
The continuing character in the Scary Movie films is dumb Cindy (Anna Faris), a television reporter this time around convinced that mysterious crop circles at Tom Logan's (Charlie Sheen) farm have something to do with a cursed videotape.
A cheap shot at the Catholic Church is taken and missed somehow, and eleventh-hour edits yank out entire scenes from the trailer before rearranging the rest of the mess in some random assortment of groin kicks, necrophilia, and child abuse.
Movies that hate movies are a curious thing, self-abnegating creatures involved in the process of whittling away at their own reason for existence to the point where the audience is forced to agree that there is, in fact, no point to the whole mess.

A romanticized view of '50s delinquency, a silly romance and a ridiculous look at the way rock 'n' roll began its influence on American music, "Shout" lumbers along alternating wildly implausible plot twists with hackneyed cliches.
The story, set in the mid-1950s, focuses on young Jesse Tucker (James Walters), a James Dean wannabe who climbs the bell tower to wake up a sleepy Texas town, which promptly lands him in the local Benedict Home for Boys.
"Shout" is rated PG-13 for violence, sex, vulgarity and profanity.

In the spirit of Paddy Chayefsky’s classic movie monologue from “Network,” the liberal comedian Wednesday urged New Yorkers — and other Americans — to simultaneously scream the all-purpose local wisecrack at the moment that President Bush accepts the nomination.
Unlike the movie version — “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!” — this protest has been tailor-made for regional dialects, Franken said.

Something strange is going on at the cricket match: Alan Bates tells Tim Curry a story about Bates' relationship with a musician (John Hurt) and the musician's wife (Susannah York-and about Bates' supposed ability to "shout" a man to death.
This movie has perhaps one of the most extraordinary endings on film: the disconnected and confusing events that have been swirling past suddenly fuse, and become understandable, in the wordless final scene (you have to have been paying attention, though).
Kudos to Bates, Hurt, York, and director Jerzy Skolimowski for a hypnotic tale that unfolds partly like a mystery, partly like an anacrostic-and which feels all the more satisfying once you've worked your way through it.
