Topic: Show (Cure live album)

  The Cure : Community
My fave part of this album was the fact that it had a live performance of "The Figurehead" which I had never heard live up until this was released.
It is perhaps the best live album ever recorded (with the possible exception of Johnny Cash's Prison albums) It is a great work of art and sound.
I got so used to the "live sound" that when I got a regular studio album, I was suprised at how different they were.

  The Cure : iSOUND.COM™
In the early spring of 1980, The Cure released their second album, “Seventeen Seconds,” since the keyboard was new to the band the album was different and more experimental than their previous albums, while the band still had its quirky pop style, the keyboard allowed new sounds, making the album darker and slower paced.
After a tour promoting the album, The Cure slowed down a bit, but then, in 1988 during the creation of their 8th album, keyboardist Lol Tolhurst was fired after some financial disputes between him and the other band members.
The album was then released in the spring of 1989 titled, “Disintegration,” although being a bit more melancholy than its predecessor it was still a hit taking the spot of number 3 in the UK charts and 14 in the US.

 Rarebird's Cure Reviews
Formed in 1976, the Cure is one of the few bands that emerged from England during the punk explosion to endure far beyond that scene and evolve into a significant band.
The Cure laid the groundwork for the goth-rock genre, and are now generally considered to be that genre's defining band.
As is the case with most live Cure recordings, the live versions sound very similar to the studio versions, but it is notably impressive how Smith and company can recreate the album's foreboding mood in a live arena setting.

The Cure is bombarding us with disposable product: There's Show, the soundtrack from the film of its Detroit stop on the '92 Wish tour; Side Show, an EP of five live tunes not included on Show, and Paris, a different live set recorded in Europe.
The only criticisms I have of this live album are that there are too many 'singles.' I am not a fan of the Cures singles and have grown bored of listening to Friday I'm In Love, Lets Go To Bed, Inbetween Days, Lullaby, High and The Walk.
Show has one too many singles and this makes the difference between a 4 and a 5 star rating.

The accompanying DVD features 20 songs filmed from a live show in April 2006 at The Alley in Fullerton, Calif. The professionally shot and edited multi-camera shoot was directed by Jonathan London and features plenty of performance footage interspersed with the band's typically witty stage banter.
this album is living proof that to get respect as a band, you have to work and work and work until your live shows are more than worth the money fans pay for them.
The album really captures the frenetic energy that is RBF's live show, and the production, for the most part, sounds fantastic as well- certainly better than the muddy mess that was the production on their last LP.

While the album is barely recognizable from what The Cure have evolved into, there is no doubt of the influence this album had on the post punk, modernist scene that arrived in the UK at the tail end of the 70’s.
The album is also surprisingly ‘present’ sounding with very little in the way of effects added.
While it does not scale the dark heights of later albums, when all is said and done, the album is quite simply The Cure, however embryonic.

As a fan of the Cure since his teen years, Robinson had publicly stated that he considered one-day working with the Cure would be his ultimate achievement.
Initially, the band was known as Easy Cure and formed while the members were at school in Crawley, a small village in the heart of Southern England.
Although Easy Cure began as a punk band, by the time they simplified the name to The Cure, Smith's obsession with dark subject matter and grim imagery was matched by his ability to create evocative songs.

There is a method to Robert Smith's madness, however, and the two albums are different enough to stand on their own and satisfy fans who love the Cure for disparate reasons.
Considered by some to be the patriarchs of classic Goth, The Cure continue to amplify the beauty in pain with this bouquet of bloodflowers - succeeding in making the art of sadness fashionable once again.
"The Cure will probably earn higher marks in hindsight than it commands on first listen, but even in the current context-- Smith as Cronus eating his children-- the album is a worthwhile parting shot from an icon that's earned a thousand second chances, and nearly used them all in the 1990s.

Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me by The Cure on Rhapsody
Samey samey samey is the strategy--repeat repeat repeat repeat the same four-bar theme for sixteen, twenty-four, forty-eight, sixty-four bars before Robert Smith starts to whine, wail, warble, work.
Because Smith hasn't veered this far pop since he was a boy, most of the themes stick with you, and in a few cases--my pick is "Just Like Heaven," which gets off to a relatively quick start--his romantic vagaries have universal potential.
But especially over a double album, the strategy gets pretty tedious unless Smith happens to be whining, wailing, warbling, or working to you.
