  Cyber-Pet "Choosing Your Cat"
A cat connoisseur might choose the unique look of the Ocicat, which, besides its spotted wild looking beauty, is known as one of the best companion cats.
A long-haired cat or a high-strung, elegant Siamese whose claws are sure to scratch expensive furniture and mother's stockings, might send a fastidious housekeeper into a broom swinging rage.
If you plan to show your cat as a hobby, and your specific about what you want in looks and temperament or if you intend to breed, by all means, buy a pedigreed cat from a breeder.

  Show cat
A Show cat (also known as a 'purebred' or 'pedigreed' cat) is one that has been judged to be close to the physical ideal for its breed.
Because these cats are so valuable, they are identified at birth with a breeder's mark - a small tattoo on their ear, and nowadays they are microchipped as well.
Cat breeders are continually competing to find the 'purest' of the species - the bushiest tails, longest ears, shortest muzzles etc. Because of this, the physical characteristic of a prizewinning showcat have been gradually exaggerated to the extent that some of them look like an entirely different species of animal.

A show cat (also known as a purebred or pedigreed cat) is one that has been judged to be close to the physical ideal for its breed standard at a cat show.
Not all pedigreed cats are show cats, many are just pets but the ones with the best conformation and personality are often shown in associations such as the CFA and TICA in the US, and the GCCF in the UK.
Not all pedigreed cats are excessively inbred, however, in the past, this was the case with some breeds, before the modern understanding of genetics was widely circulated.

Not only will your cat not do well, but by exposing your cat to all the other cats at a show when perhaps it's immune system is run down, you increase the chances that it could become quite ill. Always be sure that your cat is up to date on all shots, including rabies shots.
Most long-haired show cat owners ask for (and may have to pay for) additional space next to their exhibition cage in the show hall - this extra space is called "grooming space", and allows you to be able to completely comb, brush and powder your cat just before each show ring.
Most show cat owners bathe their cats about a week prior to a show - if the bath is given too close to the date of the show, the coat may still be too soft and floppy.
