Shrewsbury Steam Trust was originally founded in 1992 under the 'umbrella' of The County of Salop Steam Engine Society Ltd. to restore the steam engines at Coleham Pumping Station, Shrewsbury.
Ownership of the building, pumps and grounds was transferred to Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council in 1974.
The pumping station, an official Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council museum, held one of its regular steaming days last Sunday when around 100 visitors came from all parts of the UK - and a New Zealander.

We are very lucky in Shrewsbury to have so much talent on hand and for them to give their time and skills free of charge to raise funds for us.
Our thanks go to Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council for granting us the permit to collect, to the staff of the Shrewsbury Music Hall who kindly allowed us the free use of a room to count the donations and to the volunteers who stood collecting for hours on end.
Shrewsbury and District Branch benefited from the London Marathon this year to the tune of £732.60.

Rowley's House Museum re-opened in January 2001 under the new name of Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery (Rowley's House).
The Castle houses the spectacular collections of the Shropshire Regimental Museum Trust including pictures, uniforms, medals, weapons and other equipment from the 18th Century to the present day.
The beam engines were built by Renshaws of Stoke to pump sewage as part of Shrewsbury's new sewerage system.

The southwest of the town (Copthorne etc.) still is, though not to the extent that most people (including myself at times) think it is, and there are patches in the rest of the town that still are (and IIRC the Underdale ward has been getting a bit gentrified of late).
Rumour is that this could be the last set of elections for SABC; most of the County politicians are apparently in favour of switching to a Unitary authority setup of some kind.
